You shouldn't have to be forced to use protective gear. It's no one's responssbily but our own, to use proper equipment when riding. This mentality that everything we do wrong, is someone else's fault, must end. I've been riding for 42 years. I don't always wear a helmet, but that's on me.

I have been riding since I was 9. I started legally riding on the street at 13 (legal in nm. Yes you get a license) I am now 57. I got in a few minor accidents when I was younger. Once I learned that racing belongs on the track and took several courses including all msf courses and started riding using the same situational awareness I gained in combat, I haven't been in an accident on the street in over 30 years. I still ride about 40,000 to 50,000 miles a year, mostly on my original owner 1984 ninja 900, my 1988 harley fxrs sp with 130 cubic inch Jim's motor and my gsxr spr. I ride hard but always leave myself 2 exit options. I.e. maneuvering or braking. I have been working in the er for about 10 years now. I have seen up close and personal what happens when you have an argument with a car. I have seen too many 16-28 year old riders stunting on the street who failed to avoid cars. I pray for the family of this rider and more so I pray for the friends of this rider to realize that it doesn't matter what equipment you wear, riding aggressively on the streets, leads to you in the emergency room or in a coffin. It's heartbreaking to work on and lose patients who were just kids, we can blame the cars, the road conditions etc, but ultimately it's our responsibility. People may complain, but I think that the rest of the world's idea that you start on small cc bikes and work your way up thru a graduated license system is best. It's proven to save lives. Please enjoy life, ride safe. For all you car drivers, can you pull your heads from your rectums, stop texting and pay attention. The life you save is likely worth more than yours

Don’t try and add more laws to the books. If someone wants more gear they can buy it and wear it already. The problem is inexperienced riders that they can ride beyond their ability. Or ride on the dangerous side. I know I have been riding my entire life and I do not take the risks I used too.

I've seen some body/chest air bags go for around $400 but that's Amazon idk how well those would work .. being open ona Nike is crazy already and in PHX where ppl lose their minds when it sprinkles.

I sold my last street bike when I was in my 40’s. Saw so many wrecks while riding and told myself if that was me on my bike I would be dead. And in the valley here as bad as people drive-not worth it. Want to ride-get a dirt bike.

Yes, gearing up can save your life . I however believe in " my helmet my choice". We on bikes make a decision every ride to go out knowing we may come back messed up or dead. I've run off the mountain roads twice. Last one I lowsided around a harpin with a ton of tarsnakes in Yosemite. Fortunately the bie gained grip went into highside flipping me backwards and changing trajectory of both me and bike. I missed the sequia stump landed on my left shoulder and slid to stop with feet at edge of cliff. Bike went down bout 20 ft. Was geared up helmet, vest, chaps, gloves and Dr Martin boots. Ended up with torn rotator cuff, and little road rash on wrist where glove didn't cover. WHAT A F___IN RIDE MAN! Even after that I mostly ride without helmet and sometimes in a kilt. Arthritis in me neck with helmet ride 20 min I hurt much extra for a week. If I grind my head into the pavement I've lived a hard but good life and dying doing something I love is ok in my book.

Wear a helmet - what is so difficult about that. Do human rights really come into it? Forget airbags and all that other crap - helmet, gloves, boots and jacket, all you need.

@@dennisgreene5369 I'd do agrea gear especially the helmet is important but should not be law. I'd love to die on my bike, skydiving, sailing, dragracing, etc. The best death though would be giving my life defending another person. What I have listed I believe are the best ways to die, doing things I love doing. Death is just another part of life.

There’s an easy way to prevent it. Stop riding a motorcycle. And don’t tell me about lifestyle or freedom or how bikes are life. You ride a motorcycle in todays world (crowded streets wreckless drivers) then don’t be surprised when accidents happen. Sky diving, motorcycle riding, bungee jumping, rock climbing with ropes, surfing big waves list goes on and on you wanna take the chance be willing and know there is a price to be paid for doing extreme things period.

  • @thelevelrider64

As a rider, I will tell you this: the technology exists to make bikers safer, but it is $$$EXPENSIVE$$$. Many YOUNG motorcyclists get a bike because it is a more AFFORDABLE mode of transportation than a car. Technology like the airbag jackets noted in the clip can cost near or over a thousand dollars. When the costs of the protective tech come down, they will become more adopted by the larger riding community. In addition, the GREATEST threat to motorcyclists on our roads today is DISTRACTED DRIVING by the car and truck drivers around us, and their tendency not to LOOK for motorcycles. Police and lawmakers need to do more to curb distracted driving, as this has now EXCEEDED impaired driving as the most common factor in fatal road accidents, and to promote motorcycle awareness on our roadways.
