@@reaper3509 claustrophobia can be horrible, but.. at least if you're in the US, you shouldn't need to worry about getting stuck in them. Although it'll take some time for someone to come help you, you should be perfectly safe. I've been stuck in them a few hundred times on construction projects (we beat the hell out of them: overloading, hitting them with heavy objects, and various things.) I'd never once saw it fall more than a foot, multiple backup safety features. Although it seems they don't have flood protection. I learned something new.

I hope they know not to get on the elevator if there is a fire in the building.

I’m litterly claustrophobic + I can’t swim + I’m afraid of drowning and i can say this is an absolute nightmare.

My God. The thumbnail and the terror on those people's faces made my stomach turn over. Gotta be a truly helpless feeling in that situation..

Even in the movies, they teach you to take the stairs and NOT the elevator during a disaster, for reasons just like this. I'm glad they're ok, but that was really stupid.

Bet they take the stairs more often now. I was stuck in a dry elevator for a few hours as a young kid, and it made me not want to get back one one for a while. I can't imagine how terrifying this would be

I think most people only think of fires. If it's a situation that you have never experienced, you're less likely to make good decisions that we, using the power of hindsight, would make. I'm not saying the decision was smart, but we make decisions based on previous experiences. They probably never thought of this being a problem they'd need to deal with.

@Wilfredo Gomez they knew it was flooding, yes. Although, I don't know to what extent. In the video it said they were expecting ankle deep water and were met with neck deep. This one fact could've changed their decision to go down in the first place and the decision to take the elevator. What I was saying previously is that we make decisions between previous experiences and what we think we know.
