I bought the Runt 20 for Christmas, and it has been perfect for a gig I do in a large church where we use in ear monitors. The speaker emulated direct out sounds amazing. Thanks for the demo, you helped me make my decision to buy it!

Hi Philip Absolutely love your site. Love the variety, the reviews, the technical info, etc. A couple of months ago I bought the Hotone British Invasion and the Mojo Diamond and love them both. I saw your review of the British Invasion and agree with your assessment. But I must say that when I compared the BI with the MD the MD won out hands down! Both sound like tube amps and the MD has a Tweedy flavour and loves working with pedals. I have a Bugera T5 and a DIY MOD 101+ and love them both as well, but the MD ends up my go-to when noodling at home. I recommend you give the Hotone Mojo Diamond a go...I think you'll love it. Cheers from Victoria, British Columbia, Doug M

Em Alaihem it's loud. I'm pushing it through a Marshall 4x12 and it sounds huge. I really don't turn it up higher that 6 or 7. Through a 1x12 might be more manageable. Sounds ok at low volume, very clear, just less saturation

My "Failture" was , that i played the Dirty Shirley Combo , and after that , My World wasn´t like before ...i Wanted this Amp so Bad , like nothing else before ...so i paid the 2600 Euro (greetz from Germany) I have it now for one Year . They just making the Greatest Amplifiers in the World , Yes , the Mids in Friedman Amps are one thing which make em so good sounding , and they have the right Amount of Bass, Treble etc. Also the Guitar model comes through VERY Well , it Interacts with Pedals Great .

hi Phil great demo of the runt cheers, so good so I went out and purchased one and I gotta say amazed how good this little monster is, I have an original 1985 jcm800 2205 and I love this amp didn't think anything could touch it until now wow!!! I like the right and left settings on the clean finding myself more at the minute going for the left setting, I find the middle setting very muffled sounding even though I've tried a few different guitars on there to see if it makes a difference but no tried my suhr modern, USA strat and Tele but no different but not too bothered as the other 2 settings are great and the gain channel is to die for, was wondering how you set your tone settings in the vid if you don't mind and keep up with the great vids cheers ...john

  • @wayguitar69

Phil, thanks for your short but pretty thorough review(s). And short is not bad, some reviewers & promo demos-the players play way too long in between changing settings or explaining features & such. Some promos don't even have any speaking, someone is just noodling or wanking for what seems like an eternity, and you're left wondering what the controls were set at to begin with & what else is there? Same with pedal demos, they don't tell you how the amp is set up when they're demoing an overdrive or dist pedal. Sorry for ranting, just pointing out the difference between a good gear review & one that leaves you with more questions than when you started. You're a great "working man's" reviewer as well being valuable to the pros out there I'm sure. Thank you sir!

Sounds amazing both in clean and hi gain mode. Am seriously considering one but want to also be able to play it late at night at whisper quiet levels for practise purposes. How does the amp perform at these low volume levels? Also, what is causing the extraordinarily high levels of hiss and buzz at high gain??? That is somewhat concerning.

I'd love to try one of these. Even at $1500, its not too bad considering the quality and features. Yeah, its more than the Mesa, but it also sounds great. I heard one of those Mesa mini rec deals in the shop last week and I just had to leave the room.

Hi Philip, I'm loving your channel, super informative. Could you make a video that compares a really cheap modded guitar (like an Epiphone Les Paul Special II or Epiphone G-400 with upgraded nut, pickups, tuning machines, etc.) to a more expensive, but completely stock name brand guitar like a Gibson Les Paul Standard or a Gibson SG Standard? Can a budget of $500 or less dollars get you as good (or better) of a guitar than a name brand guitar that costs upwards of $1000? I'm curious not only the difference in tone but the difference in materials, quality control, and playability. And if the cheaper option is inferior to the name brand guitar, what would it take to get it to sound as good as the more expensive one?

I'm in the market for a Marshallesque amp and thought I had everything figured out with the Victory Shireff 22. Now with this review I don't know what to think! I wonder how do these amplifiers compare as it would appear this is very much an apples to apples comparison.

I bought this amp, new, without the cab cause I’m using it for direct recording, but I’ve run into some issues with it. The clean channel does not really behave the way I expected it to. Turned even to 1/4 volume it’s already breaking up like a gain channel. Half volume on clean it sounds like your gain channel sounded on half gain. I’m not sure if maybe the one I got is defective or something. If anybody has any suggestions I’d really appreciate it.

How do you think this compares to the Mark V 25? I finally got the chance to try a BE100 in a store. It sounded good, but not as great as I expected. The main drawback though was that with the master volume set on 1 it was so loud I was bleeding out of my eyeballs. I wouldn't sink $3600 into an amp that I would have to play at less then 6.5 o'clock 90% of the time.

Hey Phillip. Which do you like better? The Rectoverb 25 or the Runt 20. I bought the Rectoverb a few weeks ago and can't seem get it dialed in. It's either too clean or too loose and fizzy. Was thinking about trading it in on the Runt. I'm an 80's metal guy and own a couple of bigger Marshalls (DSL 50 and JVM 410HJS). I wanted something smaller and thought I'd try something versatile with a different flavor, but the Rectoverb doesn't seem to like me so far. BTW, thanks for all the great reviews!
