Friedman Small Box
The Smallbox features two channels, the first giving you those classic plexi tones that clean up nicely with just a twist of the guitar’s volume knob. It goes from clean to crunch to that full-blown plexi roar. The second channel features the modern high gain tone on which Friedman has built his reputation.
Friedman JJ-100 Jerry Cantrell Signature Amp
The JJ-100 is a 100-watt, two channel, EL34 powered beast that takes no prisoners. Saturated, complex, harmonic overtones create a tight response to assure no notes are lost over the full spectrum. These features are paired with AC30-like cleans and an ultra dynamic response to right hand attack, beautifully recreating Cantrell’s iconic Seattle sound.

I wish it was in front of the amp to see how he's getting that dirty tone without a bunch of mud. That drop A tuning junks my tone up real quick...
When I started digging seriously in Mastodon music this guy was not my favorite in the band, but after really appreciating his duties as a guitar player/songwriter (and he seems a really easygoing, cool guy) Bill has become in one of my guitar heroes.
The photographer's face when Bill drops that top string to A is priceless.
This man is my guitar hero. His playing is just SO. FUCKING. TIGHT.

Hey should start a band
I use my JJ every practice, Every show and Everyday in the studio and it’s know as the “Milkman” .... because it delivers EVERYDAY! Great amp thanks Dave.
Ow, that why its called butt-erslax 😂
...by the way I purchased the JJ and it is absolutely the BEST! Moreover, Mr. Friedman called me several times whenever I had a question. Buy this amp NOW - it rules.
The camera dude beside him when he plays the high road riff is me every time I listen to that song hahahah 2:40
That amp and that tone fit that guitar style tighter than O.Js glove.
he makes the sickest riffs...
1:35 is something unreal... I mean... His hand is just perfect !!!!!!

Jimi Hendrix my favorite guitarist is the guy that inspired this amp, Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains. Only starting to get into Mastodon.
I love seeing all the different guitarists having a blast of all of your amps, helps me to keep me motivated in keeping up my Friedman amp fund. Definitely wanting to see more videos like this!

in the meantime get the be od pedal....a friedman in a stomp box!!!...totally amazing...
Tasteful Playing , Very good
This is super powerful sounds . Valve amps are incredible ! Creations for creating .
That is epic! Killer amps and killer player....... Rock is in great hands!
Really tight playing and awesome tone!
Played a JJ100 recently, what an awesome amp!
Bill is such an underrated player, they credit Bill to a lot of their riffs, but he’s more laid back and quiet then the rest, although mastodon as a whole are a nutty bunch, which is why there music is so swell
As a Mastodon fan, this definitely is inspiration for me, can't wait for my birthday to come up so I can get myself a Friedman!
A dream amp !!!
I'd love to try one of them.
Bill keeping his riffs secret.
Heavenly
Sounds amazing. I'd love a BE or JJ one day. Out of interest, which model Motor City is in the guitar? I'm looking at different pickup options at the moment.
I ´ve seen my second Mastodon Concert (three weeks ago) and i LOVE this Band , i LOVE that Guitar sound , the Music of Mastodon is so DAMM Sophiscated , the Drums of Brann , the Solo´s of Mr. Hinds , TROY !! (coolest frontman) i mean FUCK ...and BILLY´s FAT , Brilliant Playing
The thing that sucks about Friedman's is once you play them you end up wanting them all. I own the SmallBox and Dirty Shirley 40 but will be buying the JJ-100 this year.
best fucking songs. Dang stellar. Best albums. 😩
amazng
for anyone wondering, he starts through the JJ then at the 4:49 mark the tone gets less gainy, he plays riffs more like VanHalen type riffs and the big clue, the tech changes a setting on the Small Box. For me, its Small Box all day, for him, well, there's the Butterslax which is probabably more like the JJ. Regardless, Friedmans all sound great, I sure love my Small Box combo.I will likely never sell it.
Bill Kelliher and Brent Hinds are Incredible Cool Metal /Prog Rock Musicians
Too bad we can't see his hands
What pickups are in the Friedman guitar?
"It needs more Butter" he probably said. "And some checkered Slax"...
great sounds, great playing.
Which amp is he playing and when? Gotta describe your play through timeline better
Epic
Are all of these cabs the Greenback/V30 mix? Thanks!
Which guitar does Bill use in this video?
