Friedman Fundamentals: Liberal, Libertarian, Classical Liberal
The embrace of liberty is the marker of true liberalism. But the term “liberal” has changed over time. Today many people use it to refer to those who want the government to assume a greater role in determining the lives of individuals. A true liberal is one who believes in a free society and who believes that the government’s primary role is to protect individual liberty.

I've recently found that I'm Libertarian, not Conservative (although I do agree with some or even possibly many Conservatives values). I have been relatively naive to other political views since America, as it stands today, has practically split completely between Democrats (Progressives/Liberals) and Republicans (Conservative). The last time I even heard of the word Libertarian was nearly 10 years ago (I'm 28, so before I could legally vote) and back then I didn't know the exact definitions and values of these differing political views were. I may be wrong, and feel free to comment or debate if someone disagrees, but I feel the most American political view is that of libertarians (true liberals). Human rights, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are the values America was founded on, and what we should still value above all else. Regardless of age, race, gender, creed, or religious affiliation, we should all be free to pursue what makes us happy and what makes us.. well, us. As long as violence (whether physical or coercion) is absent and there is no risk to endangering your neighbors, you should be able to think, do, believe, say, or live however you please. No one should ever tell you what you can or cannot be. But the same should be expected of you. You should not be able to force someone else to see things your way or live like you do (for good or ill on their part). I do think rehabilitation centers, counselling, employment assistance, and even some forms of life quality assistance should be provided for the homeless, drug abusers, and even criminals. A human is still human. We should not readily condemn a person to an isolated, slow death if we can help. But those benefit programs would be charity based, not government funded. I believe everyone deserves a second chance and that second chance should mean something. Inspire them to be better people and not make the same mistake again. We should find out why someone is a repeat offender rather than just assume they are a lost cause. There are people who need help, and I believe that help can be provided through community and neighborly love/compassion. I may be a hopeless romantic when it comes to politics and my faith, but I believe, without a doubt, that America can be better. We can all be better if we show more love and understanding towards our fellow neighbors, than labelling them as enemies for a viewpoint that rivals your own. This tribalism between the Left and the Right is literally tearing this country apart and the madness doesn't seem to be slowing down. We should strive to balance logic/rationality with compassion/empathy, efficiency with morality, and justice with righteousness. Doing what's right is very seldom the easiest thing to do. Becoming a better person is easier said than done. And seeking immediate justice does not always make you in the right. I do believe justice should be swift and decisive, but I also believe it should be constructive in it's criticism. Obviously there are crimes that we cannot fathom understanding or forgiveness we are still human and flawed. In those circumstances, the judgement and forgiveness would be up to the discretion of God. I have been reborn of late through my newfound faith, political understandings, and my conviction in my beliefs pertaining to morality, liberty, and justice. It's strange to me how quickly my life has turned around as of late. Just 2 months ago, I was a skeptical agnostic. Now I am reading the Bible daily, praying for the rejuvenation, revival, and healing of this beautiful country. I know America could be the greatest country that ever existed, but it would take work, sweat, tears, money, and cooperation for my ideas to come to fruition. Do I ever think it will happen? Possibly someday. Maybe not in my lifetime or even a few generations from now, but something has to give. We cannot continue down this path and expect to remain intact as a nation.

Do you really think people will do so much charity, especially it being an unorganised activity on a national scale. A year late, I know, but I think the point here is getting people with an inclination to operating from a classical liberal mindset to avoid voting for or otherwise supporting people or policies that constrain personal liberty if just because the label "liberal" is slapped on, as well as explain the ideological foundation most libertarians are coming from. I say this as an American con... Honesty, I'm still trying to figure out which one I most agree with, as while I'm a Christian and generally agree with most free market arguments, I can't deny there were abuses during the gilded age (oft repeated in our time, especially in the tech industry) that necessitated intervention in order to break up monopolies and put standards in when it comes to business practices. We need equal rights for people that are persecuted for loving who they love, but how can we enforce that equality without Government involvement? We need equal treatment of people, despite their gender or identification, but how can we spread that throughout the nation without Government involvement? Taxation and free healthcare doesn’t mean stronger government. Governments with smaller police forces, smaller militaries, and less advanced monitoring systems have been able to collect more taxes and apply free healthcare. Now I know you think this is ‘big government’ but it really isn’t (as I said liberal countries usually allows for more social freedom). It is obvious that you only care about your wallet and not the betterment of society because in your libertarian world capitalism would run without any anti trust laws, no jurisdiction over exploitation of workers, etc. This ironically would make a less free society as the majority of people would have very low wages and be a slave to the company they work for. In a liberal society you’d be able to protest, demand rights, etc without the fear of losing you job
Today’s liberal means to me. The endless endeavor to insist on change willingness to veer, change or abandon traditional ways and values under the pretext of A progressive agenda. This is only my impression.

If you truly want to understand more about politics Google the term you're searching for and try to find a .gov or .edu or college/university source to learn more about the subject. Just for reference, it wouldn't be far-fetched to say libertarian reasoning against forcing people to use seat belts would be that it's peoples choice to protect themselves or not. Another would be against forcing people to wear masks because it's people's choice to protect themselves or not. The rebuttal to this reasoning is that when you don't wear a seatbelt you are more likely to get injured in a vehicle collision. Meaning your recovery is more expensive, which if you are an insurance company would make you raise the prices, and inadvertently the insurance company would raise the prices on others because they assume to some degree of the population if not forced to wear seatbelts would choose not to wear seatbelts. Same reasoning goes from masks. If you don't wear a mask you could possibly be spreading the virus to other people. Not just the chance that you would get sick but that you would make others get sick.
Why tf is this in my recommendations, you really need serious help.

In the videos defense, I googled Libertarian right before getting here
Liberal doesn't just pertain to limiting government, it pertains to limiting anyone with disproportionate power, including cooperations, so no you are not a "real liberal"
Ok, so as an economist educated at a university that is considered quite well respected in this field. Just three things. 1) the ideas present Ed hear appear to claim the ideas of Von Mises & Hayek were born in liberalism. This is false, the idea of liberty is French and born not in America, with economists, but with the enlightenment. The Austrian school became radically anti government after seeing Eastern Europe fall behind the iron curtain. Rational given the times they lived, but radical none the less. 2) highjacking complex and highly rational free thinking of economists and philosophers and repacking it in a cartoon to manipulate poor populations to vote against policies which are universal the first work over is despicable. putting it up for free should be suspicious to anyone aware of the phrase “there’s no such thing as a free lunch” 3) There was no information here, nearly indoctrination tactics. Beware fake Ed videos like this.

Wow I bet you have lots of friends. You seem more like a 2020 liberal... someone who is offended by everything
Your not a real libertarian. Real libertarians are socialists because they used the word first. I am very smart by the way 🤓
