Friedman BE-OD (Tons of Gain And Tone)

Friedman BE-OD (Tons of Gain And Tone)
The Friedman BE-OD, based on Friedman's near legendary amp. It's supposed to be very good. It's supposed to have that authentic Friedman tube amp sound. There's supposed to be quite a bit of gain on tap in this little overdrive pedal as well. So is it any good? That's what I'm looking to find out today.

I'm wanting to get the Marshall origin 50, and this gives me a pretty good idea of what sorts of tones I'll be able to achieve compared to the Peavey Valveking I'm currently using. Man that thing was noisy. It sounds great though. A friedman amp is something I would love, but just can't justify being that I'm not digging regularly and if I want to record there are cheaper ways. Have never seen you play the Schecter. Too cool. I desperately need a u string to make noise with 😂.. I have seen some RGs from japan at reasonable prices and might go that route, or just build a strat 7 string with a Gotoh trem. Anyway, on my phone at least that pedal sounds great, but a Noise suppressor is a must I believe. Your strhmon sounds as good to me and is much quieter with its built in NS. Would love to see you try one of the ISP preamp with the built in noisegate. Not the expensive ISP, but theh have one in the 300, or 350 range. Thanks for another cool video my friend. I have russian made BE-OD clone and I found this pedal does not like being plugged into a dirty channel. It generates a lot of noise in this case. Only for very clean channels or FX loop. That is the way it makes far less noise even at max gain. With my setup at 12 o'clock gain position it is almost noisless.

I have the be deluxe od its the same as the be od but two channels and a mid control. Takes time to dial it in like a amp but its hands down the best od I have ever played . I run itin a clean amp and set one channel with a bit more volume and gain and the other channel for rhythm. This gives me three channels and some times I run a clean boost into it . I dont know why youtgettin all the noise but mine is no where nearthat noisy.but my amp is also much cleaner than how yours was set . I dont use this like a od pedal to push the amp this is more like a preamp in a box . Again best distortion pedali have ever played ,very amplike feel and natural sounding. I think it works best in a clean amp

To be fair, it is meant to be used into a completely clean channel, it already has a ton of gain that can absolutely be your main distortion, it's not really meant to stack on top of a cranked or already distorted amp. And the noise is definitely way more tolerable and not as bad this way

It's the amp he's using- it's never clean, it's always broken up- and when you hit it with a really hot pedal- this is what you get. There's a back plate on this pedal with a trim pot underneath- you can turn down the available gain there. If you're going to use an always dirty, really hot Marshal amp- actually two of them, like Elmo- you need to turn the gain down. Or any kind of really hot, always dirty platform- this pedal is going to be too much for them. That said- the amp you have is making a difference to- that's a very high end, really nice amp. They're made differently- they do not utilize negative feedback- and don't ask me what in the world that means but that's what the guy who makes them says when you ask why they sound and react differently. Specifically, I asked him how he managed to get such a clear, pristine, clean tone with very little noise even when you add gain. I thought it had a noise gate built in but, he says it's because he doesn't use "negative feedback".

This pedal has a trim pot in it that allows you to dial back the available gain- in case you have a really hot pickup or amp- I think that's you Elmo. Not the pickups- the amp- I've heard you say it's always dirty and I can hear it in your "clean tone"- it's not clean. I think this pedal is too much for it- even with the gain all the way down, just using the volume- it was past overdriven and into distortion territory. It sounds cool but, it would be hell to control like this. Randy Rhodes played that way though- you could see him rush to kill his volume on his guitar at the end of every song- to avoid all the feedback and squealing. Ppl say he over played, that he stepped all over Ozzy's lyrics- he had to, if he stopped his guitar would start screaming.

Plenty of other demos of other players using Les Pauls and more traditional humbucker equipped guitars out there. Personally, I appreciate the fact that Elmo does break out his 7 string in a lot of his demos.
