You should be the poster child of how to do a gear demo RIGHT. Not only do you dial tones that flatter the pedal, but you show all that the pedal is capable of, both in and out of a mix as well as into every type of amp setup. No opinion of the pedal, but the reviewer is truly an expert. Thank you.

A good few people have commented here about the background hiss, so I thought I'd share my experience with it, having owned one for over 2 years. Assuming everyone is using a decent quality isolated power supply, I find that this pedal has so much gain on tap, it really is only suited to sitting in front of a clean or very slightly "edge of breakup" amp. I've tried the internal trim pot in all positions on various settings of a JMP master volume that is already in overdrive to see if I could get anything useable, but the bottom line is, it just doesn't work that well for THAT scenario. Even with the internal trim pot turned down, you start to turn the gain up, and before you know it you have excessive hiss before you get into the great mid/high gain tone that we know this pedal can achieve. The big however is, set your amp clean and leave the trim pot at 50% (or slightly under) and those tones are in there. Most people's problem will be that it won't sit well on their board with the rest of their drive pedals, because many of those work so well into an already overdriven amp. I really like this pedal, but I only use it in certain scenarios. For example, It works really well when l want to use distortion with a looper pedal with the JMP. It doesn't have an effects loop, so the looped signal has to go into the front end, therefore the amp needs to be set set clean to prevent distorting/compressing the loop, however you still achieve that great heavy, high-gain tone from the BE-OD pedal. I hope some people find this useful, I know it is frustrating when you see an amazing player like Pete demo gear and everything sounds great, only for you to part with your hard-earned cash to be disappointed.

@@MICKEYISLOWD The trim pot basically adjusts the level of gain coming from the pedal, so it really lets you hone in on specific tones. Great review Pete, picked one up today. More distortion than overdrive pedal unless you trim the internal pot completely horizontal. At factory settings on the lowest gain you get a classic AC/DC crunch, trim the pot and you have one of the best overdriven sounds I've heard from a pedal, TS9 and TS808 goodness, its that good. Triming the pot still gives you days of gain but also the benefit of a smooth to bitty overdriven sound which is up there with the best IMO.

Holy shit, that spiky high end with the bright switch lol. That presence knob fixed everything. SEems like a great pedal, great demo too!

I keep revisiting this demo because is awesome. Mr. Thorn knows how to get the most out of the pedal, which sounds great because of his enormous taste and feeling when playing guitar.

I just discovered your demo channel and it's been worth it just for the playing alone. Huge bonus that your sounds are fucking incredible too! I have a colleague that swears by the Thornbuckers but I hadn't really checked out any of your own playing until just recently, and am kicking myself for waiting so long.
