because of the different texture of surfaces the smoother the surface, the less the friction hence the cell goes farther on the smoother surface because the friction provided is less and on the cloth, the friction is slightly more than on the smooth surface, so it covers less distance than the smoother surface while a cloth is spread and on the sandy surface, the friction is the most because of the rough texture of the sand or the soil, so it covers the least distance. the rougher the surface the more the friction applied on the object. and when the friction is more the motion is less so it resists the cell from covering more distance on the sandy and the cloth surface than on the smooth table surface
