Whether you live on a farm or in a suburb, in southern California or in southern Appalachia, country is an attitude and a state of mind. Anyone who plays banjo, crochets, and hangs out with the chickens is in a country state of mind in my opinion!

Yes, if Titanic’s orchestra had played “Nearer my God to Thee” on banjos it might have made the the whole sinking thing less ominous.

Every Friday for the last couple weeks my 1 year old daughter and I have watched Fretless Friday. She absolutely loves it!

What is it about this young lady that just mesmerizes us.. She is a very different kind of angelic soul. Pure talent .. When she plays I can tell her mind goes somewhere else.. a place where few can go much less bring back to us.. So very sweet and when she looks at the camera she is looking right at me and you.. Do you feel it?

This is not my favorite music, which is worlds away. But I like and enjoy this music. Banjo music, played in the back yard, with chickens scratching is OUR music. Country, Jazz, Bluegrass, Blues, Ragtime, Stride- it’s music with openness, movement, longing, a lot of it contains the rhythm of steel wheels on steel rails. It makes me content.
