2 Champion Banjo-ers Play Cripple Creek
Here I am playing with my new pal Odin at the 2024 Topenga banjo fiddle festival! He won first place in the Advanced Traditional banjo contest, and I won second! So naturally, as the two Champion Banjo Players of the day, we had to do some jamming. He has such a unique style of playing, and an even more unique banjo! I'm a big fan. You can see here that we've swapped banjos for fun; his banjo has a metal rim and nylon strings, giving it a really cool plunky sound that I hadn't heard on a banjo before, and I think it goes well with the brighter, chirpier tone of my banjo. Also, I may have gone and bought a bright yellow sport coat from a booth at the festival to match my bright yellow bucket hat... but hey, what is prize money for if not snazzy vintage fits and overpriced coffee?
I think we're in G tuning capo'd to A here, but it was all a blur with all the re-tuning that happens during jam sessions haha. Shoutout to my friend William for filming us, as well as lugging my banjo around for me during the festival!

Its always a treat hearing this song, especially since i live a few miles down the creek from Cripple Creek. Going to be my travel song if i ever start dating a gal up there haha. If you ever stop by Cripple Creek sometime bust out the banjo and jam this out on main street, you'd be an honorary local in no time.
