I thought it was interesting Amanda’s mom was supportive of her going on a date: my mom didn’t want me to date in high school. In fact, she didn’t become cool with it until I was in my 30’s. (Then again, being homeschooled in my high school years, I didn’t have a lot of prospects, though there was someone at church I liked...and I am so glad it didn’t work out!)

My parents lied about a lot of stuff too in my life. I had to wait years to hear the truth. All that self-blame I took growing up was painful and when they started finally talking about the difficulties in my past especially how I was raised I feel like I'm insignificant and I never really belonged and it's a no wonder our needs according to Maslow's hierarchy of needs isn't fulfilled.

This is something that Degrassi would tackle on, but nvr rlly got around to it. Altho,, this is a great storytelling with a moral lesson to it. The actors did a great job playing their role and gave me goosebumps when Amanda got caught up in her lie. I can feel it deep down that when u lie,, u only end up harming urself and the other person. Lies always die,, but the truth is what lasts forever. I was definitely in this situation a lot when I lied about my age to many girls and only 1 of those girls were smart enough to catch-on and called me out on it. After that, I nvr done it again. Lying gets u in big trouble, while the truth makes u feel relieved and have a great reputation towards others including urself. 💯

How brave are these actors.

Lying about ur age never works unless ur my grandpa he lied to my grandma saying he was 3 months younger but was actually 3 years 😂

There’s a reason why there’s a Romeo and Juliet law in the United States. It could have been useful had it been available when I was a high school senior in 2001. I actually had to live by a strict rule my mother had about this and I was FORCED to lie (it was the first time my life I had to do it) about the age of my prom date. I had told my mother I was taking a sophomore instead of a girl 18 and older. I never forgot the answer about the sophomore’s age to my mom: “Mom, she’s the same age as me-18.” I knew the sophomore was 16 and had I told her the truth then, I would have been arrested for statutory sexual misconduct. However, I had began a relationship with a 22 year old girl that later became my wife (she has since passed as of June 1, 2010) and I could not take her as many proms I know of don’t allow anyone over 21.

Nonetheless, I was in Amanda’s shoes (though I was an 18-year-old boy at the time and now a 40-year old woman and in a coincidence my very first girlfriend’s name was Amanda). I don’t like resorting to lying and coming from my experiences since a majority of my extended family members are mostly child molesters and pedophiles (and have since passed, God rest their souls).

You have to completely understand where Amanda is coming from. As a student in high school (especially a freshman who just started), you want connection and to build relationships with other people even if they're popular people. It's hard to be alone with little to no friends. Believe me, I suffered from that many times. But make sure the friends you do make are the real ones that are loyal and are with for better or worse. You only want circles in your circle, not squares.
