I rip off a small stack of large post-it notes (3x5?) for a notepad in my sling. They are great for jotting down notes, but it is surprising how many times you want to stick a note to a mirror or a desk or a door for a roommate or maid service or maintenance. Need extra towels? Write a note and stick it to your hotel door. And for years, I wondered how to let the maid know that the money I left behind was a tip for them and not something I had forgotten. Now, I post-it note, "Thanks!" in whatever language and stick the money under it.

Congrats on having unique items on your travel list. Not too easy these days with so many travel YT channels. Instead of the Victorinox Jetsetter, I suggest the SwissCard as a replacement - for air travel you can leave the blade and scissors at home and bring the rest of the tools along.

Love this content. I travel a lot myself, need to check out the sling and the gaming device. One thing I do on long flights, I get the emergency exit row or bulkhead and then I bring an inflatable footrest. Nothing better than putting your feet up while you sleep/eat/work/watch a movie.

How about a usb c flashlight? I’d recommend Rovyvon for the quality and light weight. Plus, some of the options will provide light while they charge from the battery bank. I also usually carry a couple of feet of duct tape wrapped around an old credit card. It’s surprising how often I’ve used it. Finally, I carry one of the tiny sewing kits like you sometimes find in a hotel room. I’ve used those several times as well.

So a sling has been a gamechanger for me over the last year. I use the Tomtoc compact 4 liter. After years of dragging a backpack to my seat and having it underfoot, the sling has been a revelation. Now, I carry-on the backpack and place it in the overhead and tuck the sling beneath my feet. Don't really understand why you switched to a roll-on now that you have a sling. I'm just back from Asia and mad that I didn't hear the tip to strap the the sling from the seat tray so that you don't have fumble for it until I returned this week!

A carry-on sized roller and a backpack that can fit under the seat are what I bring. I've done two long haul flights over the past six months and nothing beats the feeling of passing through immigration and the luggage carousel into customs faster than others who checked a bag. A sling is a must for me when going about my day to day at a destination though, so that gets packed in my roller.

I prefer a 20L day pack. You don't have to fill it, but you could on an outing if needed. You also don't have to play tetris with the 10L of stuff in that sling of his. But some people just prefer slings, I think.

My travel EDC would definitely be a Kindle (Basic), water bottle, scarf in case I get cold, a couple of meds in a cute tin (beano, Tums, gravol, etc), notebook with pen (in my case a pocket Leuchtturm1917 and Zebra Sarasa Dry), and noise canceling headphones. I like the look of the iPad mini though! I have the “regular” size but maybe now that I’m done grad school I could switch to a mini for portability. I also like the idea of a bladeless Victorinox with the scissors for travel journaling. Thanks for sharing!

As someone who spends a ton of time researching how to optimize my one-bag setup, I also carry the same Swiss Army Jetsetter, amazon eye mask, and NB10000 powerbank haha. Pro-tip for the jetsetter: temporarily remove the toothpick and the tweezer from the knife before you go through security. The tweezer is extremely useful and beats out almost any camping/micro tweezer out there. Put those items in your med kit just in case your jetsetter is confiscated.

Thanks for a video without the usual products. I've never understood the iPad as a laptop with keyboard obsession that travelers maintain. A 13" ultrabook (Apple MacBook, Dell XPS 13, Lenovo Carbon X1) takes up about the same amount of combined space (actually less space overall), and then you have a full laptop instead of a tablet pretending to be one. Great video, kind of a similar setup to mine. My thoughts, suggestions?: Glasses - I can live without them, they seem to be a hassle to set up and don't bring anything to the table. iPad, stand, keyboard combo - can be replaced by a small laptop. I use a Lenovo Yoga. Miyoo Mini - great choice. I use a PSP Go. Notebook - can be replaced by the laptop, phone, but I still bring my notebook with me everywhere. Pen - Uni Jetstream - ballpoint, but writes like a gel, doesn't leak and you can buy it in 0.38mm, perfect for a notebook. Sling - totally, I don't leave my home without it. My pockets are for my hands. I have 2 Tomtocs and an Air. Neck pillow - I'd suggest a good quality inflatable one to save space. Gum and comb - yes.. well... I'm bald so no need for comb... Charging devices, cables - whatever you can find that suits your needs, but just one of each. Medic bag - good to have. Multitool - I would't bother, especially since it lacks the most important tool: the blade. An e-book reader would be a good alternative for entertainment. I still use wired earbuds instead of wireless so that I don't have an extra thing to charge.

I like your videos so much. my dad flies weekly for work and I’m hoping to get some tips to help reduce his stress in any possible way. he’s a very tall man and he is always first in line for boarding so that he can get his stuff in the overhead, but he brings his briefcase too which fits between his legs fine. as an artist who uses the big iPad Pro, I’m torn on paperlike. I’d love some more friction, the slippery clicking is definitely detrimental, but the paperlike is a bit notorious for wearing down apple pencil tips fast so I’ll have to look into how much replacements will cost me. it just might be worth it at this point. your notebook/journal is lovely, i always carry a few notebooks with me in case i want to write about what’s going on or doodle something :) have a nice day!

Stumbled on this video randomly, absolutely loved it. One of the newest things I've added to my travel bag are the AKG K361 headphones. I don't like earbuds, they tend to hurt my ears, and ANC bothers me when I'm traveling, so the relatively compact, foldable K361's are great - they sound pretty good, they're easy to drive, and they do block out a decent amount of sound - but not everything. Plus being wired, I don't have to worry about charging them or having them run out of juice on a long flight. I do carry a small set of wired earbuds (the Moondrop CHU's), and a small set of wireless earbuds (Amazon Echobuds) as backups and for making phone calls. One other trick I learned from a fellow traveller (not THAT kind of fellow traveller) are some Purell santizing wipes. These are great to wipe down the tray table or any other surface that might need cleaning, and they're small so I can fit a bunch.

The MIYOO MINI looks great, and I have heard it is great, but I have a device similar to it called the Anbernic RG353V and I would 100% recommend it. It has the GameBoy form factor, has L1/R1 and L2/R2 like the MIYOO, but it also has 2 joysticks. It helps with playing some more emulators that it can handle, like PSP, PS1, N64 etc. I would recommend looking into it, plus it can be easily bought on Amazon.

I usually carry a few different slings (Tomtoc, Nutsac tactical) and I want to add a small pouch so that I don't have to switch each item but just the pouch when I switch slings.. I carry a power bank, victorinox knife, earbuds, flashlight, a couple of pens, charging cable. Any thoughts?@@MarcusCreates

@@MarcusCreatesI use a couple of different slings (tomtoc, nutsac tactical) for my everyday carry and I’m looking for a pouch to place items I carry in so that I can switch between slings easier. I usually carry a power bank, cable, victorinox knife, pens, field notes and flashlight. I’ve been suggested the RZE blackcomb pouch and maxpedition pouches. Any thoughts or suggestions?

How are you fitting that keyboard in the Bellroy 10L sling? Edit: Aha! Got to the packing part of the video… I think that’s the 9L not the 10L? The 10L has those padded dividers for camera gear that I couldn’t figure how you were working around 😄

Just heard yesterday that all major airlines in the US now are considering the extras like neck pillows a personal item. So if you have a carry on and out it in the bin, then your sling, they wont allowmthe neck pillow or blanket or whatever hanging off your other items.

I'll counter that you can say anything when you're role playing. However, I had a job loss a couple years ago in my early 40s and my emergency fund saved us from making any major adjustments. It took a year to replace, but that was still faster than I expected.
