French Riviera: Uniquely Chic
Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide © 2004 | In this program, we follow in the footsteps of 19th-century aristocrats along Nice's Promenade des Anglais. Then we listen to the graceful reshuffling of personal fortunes at the casino in fairy-tale Monaco, and visit the picturesque artist hangouts of Chagall, Matisse, and Picasso. #ricksteves #ricksteveseurope #riviera

My dream now is to have my wife see also all the beautiful places that I have seen , but I think will have to wait for a while until this pandemic stopped ...not only enjoying the scenery you explain very well all its history ...Thank you so much ....
Thank you, Rick, for showing us the south of France with outstanding video and historically-rich narrative. I learned so much!

The flowers of the Saleya market come from Morocco since the 70s. There is no more production since the buildings have grown everywhere in the Alpes Maritimes.

The best of Rick Steves terrific tours, Like the story of Picasso' rebirth as anartist,t Rick teaches us more than art history classes or the rigidly controlled museum tours we have taken.
I love the scenes in the old town market in Nice. Julia Child herself used to shop amongst all of those vendors for decades. I was especially intrigued by the bit when Rick talks about Socca, the chickpea based flatbread sold in the market. Julia Child filmed a special segment in the market about the Socca for her original “The French Chef” television show nearly fifty years ago. Its astounding they still prepare and transport the same products as they did so many years ago.
what a gorgeous video. you are so lucky Rick

Don't forget unknown Menton because it's the most beautiful city in french Riviera ! I recommend !
Rick, you're always fantastic
It has been years since my college days abroad and other trips to the Cote Azure, and Nice in particular. My first student trip involved the coastal train, hanging out the seaside windows , and passing students in and out of the windows at various stopping points. I remember the gigantic peaches on each table, which were delicious, but we didn't realize we had to pay for them! Everyone had to divvy up ! We laughed a lot, of course 🤣!

I was in this area in 2014. Did a self guided walking tour with a company called Walk in Provence. From Tende in the Alps down to Menton on the coast. Unforgettable experience. I wish Monaco had fewer buildings. It must make people angry to lose their beautiful views. But the Grimaldi family really brought it back to life, Grace was the best thing to happen there in the 20th Century.
Grace Kelly went to Cannes as part of a panel for the film festival not to make a movie and that's when she met Prince Ranier. Ranier was so respectful of tradition that he flew to meet Grace's parents so as to ask for her hand in marriage. 'Can you provide well for our daughter?' 'Well, I'm a Prince.' 'So you're working steady?'
