I might be first,
Thello is 100% owned by Trenitalia. Which rather makes the last comment void.
The French Riviera and the Italian Riviera are ones of the most beautiful places on Earth to live in. It's good there are still trains connecting Milan to Nice/Marseille. It's interesting to see that Monaco and San Remo underground stations are alike.
Good video, only a clarification: Genova PP is not a terminus station, if you don't change way you will arrive in La Spezia (-> Parma), Pisa (Firenze), Roma Ost.
Noone cared for a little bit of missing content. Good thing you helped that senior. Amazing generosity.
As we have seen, are private railways the future? In fact, as of today (1 July 2021) this "Thello" train no longer exists. In any case, thello's shares were 100% owned by Trentalia, which in turn is 100% owned by the Italian state. The "thello" carriages are the identical ones that Trenitalia uses in Italy for "frecciabianca" and "intercity" trains, only with modified livery and logo.
"Private operators are the future of of Railways". Yes and no
Nothing like train travel lol people see more on a train it's relaxing just sit back and look out of the window
Well, thello is backed up by FS, it’s not exactly a franchise, not to mention that Trenitalia, even tough is the national italian railway, is doing great: even tough it’s the national railway operator, it doesn’t get a single cent from the people taxes (Rfi, the line operator, does) and still was able to compete with italo and it’s much lower prices.
Nice, a loco hauled train in Western Europe! I travelled on this line when I was a teenager in 1962. It was very pretty then, mostly close to the sea with surface stations in the seaside towns but obviously slower. The French side was still steam worked but from Ventimiglia there was the strange Italian 3 phase electrification. This had 2 parallel trolley wires for phases 1 and 2 and the 3rd phase was the rails. The electric locos had 2 bow collectors or 2 pans with twin contact shoes. The control system only allowed 4 speeds and they had coupling rods like steam locos. The 3 phase lasted until 1976 and it is well worth checking out some excellent videos of the last years, I miss it so much, what would it be worth to travel behind engines like that again today!
Nice to see the lovely station of Nice again!!! I was there last summer... Thank you for sharing this journey with us showing that traveling with Thello can be a good option as well!!!
Excellent review ! Thank you for showing "Thello"
I remember the Pickpocket warning at the Nice station.
Thello is wholly owned by FS, maybe that's the reason why the ticket selling machine is so similar to italian ones!
Superb video ! 👍🏻
Beautiful video trip.I also enjoyed video showing changing of electric engines.
Hi Mate , in 2 weeks time I will take the Thello train from Milan to Savona! Like you I love spend time on trains! usually I decide by how I feel the destination , I just buy the train ticket and then I can start my dream journey ! I stop there having a nice meal and then back to my place! ;-) ciao
