As a teenager back in 1980s, I grew up adoring the Talbot T16. The raspy and uneven idling sound is very peculiar unlike many other engine of group B machine.

It amuses me that the icon of Group B cars today is the Audi Quattro (like it was won it all), a car that had more to do with a street car (a "liberalized" Group A to understand us) than a Group B if we take reference at what that the Regulation said, that spoke of prototypes, although opened the doors to the old Group 4 cars such as the Ascona 400 (Manta 400 as an extension of the same), Nissan 240 RS or even the Toyota Celica Twincam, although the latter to a lesser extent, or even cars like the Citroën Visa or the Talbot Samba, which were completely obsolete cars and with disegn totally street cars. And yes it is true, Audi was the pioneer of all-wheel drive in rallies, but technically speaking it was not true Group B, and that was its main handicap to be competitive, especially taking into account a very uneven weight distribution, apart from all the reliability issues they had for years, not just when they debuted. Lancia did create authentic Group B cars with the 037 and the Delta S4. The latter was a 100% prototype since both its engine and its chassis were specific, they had nothing to do with production cars. Lancia 037 had an engine derived from the series (from the Fiat 131 Abarth street engine with a volumetric compressor that produced 140 CV) and the monocoque of its chassis derived from that of a Lancia Beta Montecarlo, which was designed with 2 especific tubular subframes (front and rear) and to which the placement of the engine was changed from being transverse to longitudinal. In the case of the Peugeot, happened something like that, the central monocoque derived from a 3-door 205 that was cut in half and a rear "subframe" was attached to it, where the engine, gearbox and most of the mechanical parts. Of the rest elements, both the transmission and the suspensions and the dimensions of the width of the axles as well as the wheelbase had nothing to do with the street car. The engine was a special version created "on purpose" of the XU family of PSA series engines (XU8T), specifically derived from the XU9D Diesel cast block that already equipped the Talbot Horizon, with a 16-valve cylinder head of new design.
