The lifting tool works a lot better if you bend it just a little bit and if you would put the lasagna tin on the esbit flame upside down for a couple of minutes you'll get it heated up on the top so then when you flip it over you just need a couple of minutes on the bottom and you won't get the burned spot

I've found that putting those tins in some boiled water to heat them up is preferable to cooking them over an open flame. For one, you don't even have to open them, and for two they won't burn. It also heats them up quite quickly and you're probably going to be boiling water for coffee or tea anyway if you're allowed to use the esbit stove.

French rations definitely sit at the top table of MREs. Personally I prefer the Russian ones, as they lean more towards savoury rather than sweet when it comes to the extra stuff, but there's no disputing the quality of the French rations, particularly when it comes to the mains and entrees.

The Legion boys in Chad and Niger/Niamey have small bottles of red wine with their patrol rations, always blew me away. The pot holder folds mate and the handle bends back, sturdy little holder when moulded right, also the French boys don't crack their tins, they flip then until they swell and then crack them for the final few minutes, not that it matters, tin only caught a wee bit by the looks of it. Great review and scoff.

I think you're supposed to bend the lifting tool too so it grabs it in two places to stop it twisting

Very nice ration, not something we see often here in Canada. Lasagna would certainly be a very pleasant hot lunch on a cool or cold patrol. Lovely review and I’m looking forward to another from you. Stay well and be safe. Peace.

It also looked to me that the can holder should be folded which would stop the can flopping about. Thanks for posting and stay safe.

Hi Andy, cracking review as usual. A tasty looking selection of grub too...👍. Just a wee tip if it helps the cooking of tinned goods for you, heat the tin unopened in a zebra pot of boiling water. Pouring some cold water over the heated tin will reduce the pressure build up and cover the lid with a cloth as you crack the seal on the lid open. I can't help myself sometimes....I used to be a cook..😀 Cheers

That looks a lot great! Much better than most of the American ones I see. I like that it’s all in metal tins as opposed to the plastic pouches. Cooking in plastic is just so unappealing.
