He did a great job to convey so much information in such a short time. And to make it funny too. It was amusing to see the expression on your face as the torrent of facts just rushed past. Like “What did he just say?” It seems mostly accurate, from what I know about the US.

One wrong statement was that the Civil War started in Alabama. South Carolina left the Union first and the first battle was at Fort Sumter in Charleston, South Carolina. But Alabama and other Southern states quickly joined.

It wasn't a civil war. The CSA did not attack the USA. Lincoln started a war against the CSA. Not a civil war at all. AND, Lincoln didn't start the war to end slavery (another lie). The North had slavery until the end of the war. Lincoln even stated he didn't invade the country called the CSA because of slavery and he didn't care if slavery existed or not in the USA.

Geography Now is one of my favorites. He started his channel with one stated goal; cover EVERY country in the world in alphabetical order. I think he's on the S or T countries now, so if you're waiting for his US video it'll take some time lol. He did do a France video though that you may find interesting. His normal country videos have a LOT more research, but he talks very fast in all of them so just keep that in mind if you continue watching his stuff. Thanks!

Hi Marie! Of course, there is sooo much more involved with every single US state than what's in this video. But I have to admit, he picked some really common stereotype things to remark on. It was good and what he said was accurate. And your reaction was awesome too! Maybe play it again at 75% speed to pick up on some things you might have missed(??) And always ask us follow up questions. We love to explain things about our country (especially when we have no idea what we're talking about!) 🤣🤣 Happy Saturday! xo

Hey Marie, I live in Kansas. We are going to be tied to a 1939 movie. (The Wizard of OZ) for the rest of eternity. Anywhere I go in the world. People know about Dorothy and her friends. Kansas was also the State where Superman landed as a baby and where he grew up. The two most famous people that are associated with Kansas are both fictional. In reality, Kansas grows a lot of food. (Wheat, Corn, Soy Beans, etc.) We also also have a strong aviation industry here. Cessna, Beechcraft, (Textron) and Learjet. It is flat. But not as flat as Florida.

Bonjour Marie! Ok, while I love that guy and his channel, I do have to take SOME exception to his description of Michigan. He pretty much described Detroit prior to 2018 when things really started to turn around again. The rest of the state is quite diverse. The Upper Peninsula (or UP) is also home to many Finnish people, and is much less populated that the Lower Peninsula where Detroit, Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, Muskegon, Kalamazoo, and other cities are located. Ann Arbor is home to the University of Michigan, a world renown research university and a great medical facility. Michigan has had its problems, but starting in 2019 things have gotten much better on the whole, and while Chicago rules Illinois, Detroit used to but rule Michigan but has not for many years now. Bonne journee! ~Be Blessed

I am a Yooper snowbird. From mid-October through Mid-May I live in Georgia. I spend the summer is Northern Michigan being a Yooper. Let me explain. Michigan is split up into 2 peninsulas, the upper and the lower. The Lower Peninsula (which looks like a Mitten) is where Detroit where the car industry got started. It is very big on industry and agriculture. Lots of factories. Lots of farms. Lots of food processing factories. The breakfast cereal industry is headquartered in The Mitten. There is a big bridge, Mackinaw Bridge, that connects the 2 peninsulas. The Upper Peninsula (abbreviated U.P.) A person from the U.P. used to be called a U.P.er which has now been contracted to Yooper. The U.P. had a major mineral mining boom in the late 1800s. Now it is just a lot of forest's, lakes and wildlife. Originally explored by the French, Bishop Baraga. My summer house is on Lac La Belle which is just off of Bete Grise on Lake Superior. Also don't forget all of Michigan is surrounded by the Great Lakes which would be called inland seas if they were salty. Michigan Humor: The Yoopers call everybody in The Mitten Trolls because they live under the bridge. (Billy Goats Gruff kzread.info/dash/bejne/k52hu8iGo93Fito.html ) Georgia is the largest state in per square meters of dirt East of the Mississippi. Atlanta is the capital with a huge airport and major headquarters for many very large corporations such as Coca Cola. The rest of the state is pretty rural and the economy is based on agriculture. Since it is on the same latitude as North Africa it also has a very mild climate.

Grew up in Michigan and now reside in Alabama. It was a little bit of a culture shock. Some things the same, some things different. Michigan and Alabama are 600 plus miles apart and in two different regions, one midwest or great lakes area and one in the southeast. Again, some things are similar but sometimes it's like a different country. Many don't like me down here because I'm a "yankee". Don't let the video fool you. The state of Michigan is a wonderful and beautiful place with great people and besides being the great lakes state it is one of only two states that is a peninsula and Michigan is separated into two peninsulas. What gives Michigan a bad rep is its largest city Detroit. During WW2 reached over 2 million people and arguably was the nations 3rd largest city for a short time, an industrial giant which also played a role in the war effort, considered to be a world class city, paris of the west etc. Then after the late 60's became the most dangerous city in america, the poorest, and became a sprawling slum etc. But Detroit IS in the middle of a renaissance. Grand Rapids the 2nd largest city which has about 1.3 million in its metro area is considered to be one of the 10 best cities in the united states.

I am from Chicago, in Illinois. Illinois is the "Land of Lincoln" (our greatest president) because his adult life was all spent here and he is even buried here. Chicago (America's third largest city) also has unique and outstanding food. Also, Chicago's airport is the busiest in the world if you include cargo, not Atlanta. Michigan was not well represented by this video, which is a beautiful state, especially along its western Lake Michigan shoreline.

You licked your lips when he talked about Texas BBQ. As a native Texan it made me smile. It seems that many Europeans underestimate the size of the continent US. Texas is about the same size as France and the US comparable to Europe. Europeans wonder why Americans don't travel to other countries. If we both travel 700 km you are in a different country and we are in different state. Come see for yourself. 👣

The economic impact sure played it's role in Detroit but the city and the greater metropolitan area is booming with great mom and pops restaurant from all over the world, and leaving the city you get wonder nature and lakes all in a relatively short drive unless you're heading into the upper peninsula.

Proud Michigander here! Basically what he was saying, we thrived from the car manufacturing business in the early 1900s. Over the years, that business faltered with people losing their jobs. Most of the issue with money is in Detroit, our largest city. As people moved out of the city into the suburbs, revenue fell. We announced bankruptcy almost a decade ago. Plus with the crime in several areas near Detroit, it has become infamous with being a dangerous city. I can tell you firsthand (not biased) that Detroit is thriving again and is and has been an incredible place to visit.

One big thing about Alabama that he left off is our work with the US space program (NASA). The German engineer Dr. Wernher von Braun and his team contributed the most to the design and construction of the Saturn V (the Saturn Five) rocket that took us to the moon while based in Huntsville, Alabama. To this day, a large amount of work is done on the space program in north Alabama and it remains a deep part of our heritage.

That was really interesting to watch, Marie. I'm a US citizen and I didn't know half of what he pointed out. Lol. I split my time between California and Idaho. Grew up in California, moved to Idaho for work some 30 years ago and stayed. Family is still in Cali. Besides being known for growing the most potatoes Idaho, primarily north Idaho where I live, is known for its mountains, forest and many, many lakes, rivers, and waterfalls. It's a very popular state to go to if you like to hunt or fish. It has a very low crime rate. Much of the population is armed (owns at least one gun). The people who were born and raised here are very neighborly in general - more so than many of the transplants (people who've moved in from other states). Idaho is also known as the Gem state as 72 different precious and semi-precious stones (from almandite garnets to zeolite, the rarest being the star garnet, sapphire, rubies and Jade) can be found here.

Super late on this but what he said about Michigan is mostly about Detroit, pur largest city. It was once one of the big economic centers of the US, home of the auto industry, it's nickname is The Motor City, and it filled for bankruptcy after years of corrupt officials stealing funds the city needed. It is seeing a current resurgence though and it's downtown area is more clean than that of Los Angeles and San Francisco

Hi again Marie 🌼 A snappy hit & miss, sarcastic at times but funny neverless, that Tennessee remark & how weird those northern accents sound (no disrespect) and did he seem a little Jealous of Kentucky with its bourbon & horse derbys , it's all the usual stereotypes that spring to mind from popular culture but what he does show is how Amazing & Diverse America is in its Landscapes & cultures and for those of us in Europe you can be overwhelmed by it all. Like you I take pleasure in reading from those living throughout the USA and how it differs from where we are and what we can learn from each others experiences. As always you have everything you need with the links, I'll try to do the same for everyone else later, Thanks again 💖

There is a region of the US known as "the rust belt" mainly around the Great Lakes. It got this name from the rusted out factories that were left behind when all the companies left to set up abroad for cheaper labor. Michigan, specifically the city of Detroit, got hit the hardest when the automotive industry left "The Motor City". But has been on a slow recovery and isn't as bad as it once was, while still having many issues to still fix.

I did think he got across a lot of good information on most states in a quick and funny way, but I really did not like his dismal of Michigan and a nothing state that only is known for Detroit going bankrupt (mostly because the governor wouldn't help the city). Michigan as you know from the calendar and books I've sent you is a beautiful state unrivaled I think for its huge freshwater seas known as the Great Lakes (most named by the French by the way), its stunning northwoods with amazing autumn colors, a mecca for birds and wildlife, art, and culture. And yes, it is the auto capital of the world! And we are known for maple syrup and cherries as well. Inidana was short-changed too-- it boast Indiana Duns on the south shore of Lake Michigan and beautiful praks like Brown County State Park, Turkey Run State Park and more. Jasper-Pulaski State Wildlife Area is a great place to observe up to 20,000 Sandhill Cranes in migration including dancing like popcorn.

As someone from Kansas, I feel the need to point out the eastern side is quite hilly and green. As someone who was born in western Kansas, I feel his flat comment was understated lol. Nothing but land and sky. I live in a town that's basically a halfway point if you're driving from Kansas City to Denver Colorado. I've told many people going to Denver to make the drive at night so they can't see how desolate it is lol. Also, as a Kansan, not a year goes by when I don't hear tornado sirens. Severe weather is almost a religion here. His saying Oklahoma gets hit hard by tornados was really sugar coating it. The Oklahoma City area has seen several F5 tornados since 1999, which makes you wonder what that area did to agitate whatever higher power you believe in. That state has recorded both the physically largest tornado, and the tornado with the highest wind speeds alike.

Chicago. Runs about 70 miles in length and 50 miles across. Besides corporations and museums contains Chicago River and River Walk and Lake Michigan with a shoreline that appears as if you were on an Ocean Coast. Miles of farmland of mainly wheat, soybeans, and corn until Iowa where there is more corn on rolling loess hills and small towns well kept, until South Dakota where green turns to brown and arid soils melded as one like an undulating giant ocean field of wheat and grasses that stretch to horizons. West towards Wyoming, the Missouri River runs through South Dakota before it turns south towards Missouri.. There are waterfowl and pronghorn antelope. Elevation changes continually and gradually as you near the Rockies and the Continental Divide. Whereupon there are Indian trails running through forested canyons until Cody, Wyoming Here the mountains visible for an eternity are finally close. Enter from the directions of the compass through passes into Yellowstone national Park the size of small countries in Europe. You have traveled through 4 states since leaving Chicago and had you been in Europe you would have traversed the Continent.

A popular joke to ask someone what part of New Jersey they are from, is to ask simply, “what exit”? Upon hearing an exit # off the Turnpike, most New Jerseyans would have a prey good idea of approximately where in the state the person lives.

Texas is 2nd to California in GDP growth and closing in on Calif. If it secceeded ,it would represent the 10th largest economy in the world( based on 2016 statistics) So I would venture to guess Texas has surpassed California already since many companies have moved here from Calif since 2016. Even Tesla

Extreme weather. Once leaving Chicago travelers cross mainly flat landscape and miles of treeless farms. In summer weather rolls across the Rockies (west to east), down from Canada, and warm air from the Gulf of Mexico, and the American Southwest. These air masses compete in temperature and and air pressure as vortexes are born to form tornadoes. One can feel temperature changes and degrees of humidity as oppressive air is momentarily relieved by cooler dryer air and back again. The hairs on your arm and head may fill with static electricity. This is a clue you are in trouble. Shelf Clouds darken the sky in a wide arc filling the entire horizon. Insects once thick make moves to vacate. There is miles of open land in treeless plain with little protection. Reckoning as to which way to safety is an educated guess. The distance from Chicago to Yellowstone is more than 1300 miles (2100 kilometers+).

Most of his descriptions are true about the states. Describes their personalities and people well. One thing not mentioned regarding North Carolina, its the home of NASCAR. A lot of race tracks and teams are here. Also West Virginia, calls itself the mountain state. The mountains are not as tall as other places but the entire state is mountainous with almost no flat areas, only along some river valleys.

He did talk fast. He simplified his descriptions & left out a lot. But he did include what he could tie up at the end for each state in a funny way. He is more accurate than his comedic style might lead you to believe. Except he did leave a lot out.

I've lived most of my life in Oregon and Washington. His description of both are accurate, though I think Voodoo Doughnut is overrated. It's a tasty tourist trap though. As a MIT alumni, him calling Harvard the best university in the US struck a nerve. Harvard is the oldest university in the US and the most well known.

I notice you have a route 66 sign on your wall. I was on that highway once cutting through Missouri. I qas a little disappointed because as famous as it is and all the pop culture hype about it it looked just like any other highway or at least in the area I was in. No tourist traps or anything unusual.

While I did think a lot of what the guy said in the video rang true to me, I would have to say he was off on a couple things he said about New Jersey. I also realize he was being tongue in cheek and I’m sure didn’t intend to have everything he said taken seriously. I guess many bloggers feel a need to be entertaining to keep viewers. Having said that, I would disagree with his characterization of NJ as a wealthy state. There are some wealthy areas of the state, but I would say it’s predominantly working and middle class. Like every state, it has some poor areas too. Calling NJ an “angry” state seemed odd too. I imagine all over the world, good people occasionally get angry. Then there are people who seem angry way to often, but characterizing NJ as an angry state seems strange, unless he’s been binge watching The Sopranos. 😉🤓😉🤓😉🤓
