The 2022 FTX Crypto Cup sees Magnus Carlsen, Alireza Firouzja, Levon Aronian, Anish Giri, Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Liem Le, Hans Niemann and Praggnanandhaa gather in the Eden Roc Miami Beach Hotel in Miami, Florida for the 2nd Major on the $1.6 million Meltwater Champions Chess Tour. $210,000 and a $100,000 Bitcoin bonus is at stake in the 7-round all-play-all tournament. Each match consists of 4 rapid games on the chess24 Playzone, with the winner earning $7,500 (3 points). If the match is tied there's a blitz tiebreak, with 2 blitz games followed, if needed, by a single Armageddon game. The winner earns $5,000 (2 points) and the loser $2,500 (1).
For each rapid game the players have 15 minutes for all their moves, with a 10-second increment after each move. For blitz games it's 5 minutes and a 3-second increment, while for the Armageddon game White has 5 minutes to Black's 4, but a draw counts as a win for Black. No draw offers are allowed before move 40. Official website: chess24.com/tour

The bishop actually wasn’t doing much on e7. Magnus never was going to capture the knight with it, kh8 was always his idea. If anish moves the rook then he loses other rook. So move makes a lot of sense, magnus just had to make sure he wasn’t getting mated first but the bishop on e7 is not that strong of a defender as you may think

When I started out I played quite a bit of the French defense in blitz games, most of the time it ended up in the exchange variation and when it didn't I basically just piled up at the d4 pawn. It worked decently, but that probably was because I had a clear plan based of some amount of strategy, while opponents at the 1000 - 1200 elo rating typically didn't. Then I started playing the Sicilian instead, worked better since I wasn't dependent on not getting the exchange variation. Very little was written about it compared to the other variations so I couldn't really find solid theory to study.

#agadmator but instead of playing H6 why magnus didn't play bishop to b6 it was just heck of a move ...

Why is magnus lower rated in rapid. Are players not commonly above their classic rating the shorter the time format

Normally yes, but good luck having a higher rating in any format when comparing to Carlsens classical rating. Hard, even for Magnus himself

that's massively disrespectful to ian and ding who are both amazing players. i'm sure it will be an interesting watch regardless. ofc nearly everyone wanted magnus to defend his title but we should accept his choice too. if he no longer enjoys it then i'd rather he stop

@@escapeartist80 it's just a title. magnus can still play great chess with or without it. i think you are being a tad over-dramatic. do you really value your own obsession over his happiness? that's just kinda sad. magnus made his decision. get over it.

@@daywidd I think you dont understand. Chess for me is far from an obsession, thats what im saying. With no magnus why watch its not that big in my life so why watch if the best playing isnt playing. I think youre reading too much into this and taking my opinions personal.

Is this the shortest gap between pause the video and it was in this position in agadmator? Anyhoo in #9LX no 1 can tell you not to play this or that opening. You just show up and play. No need to study any openings. #9LX is so fun. Chess is still around only because of stubborn tradition and the chess book publisher conspiracy that there'll be not much left to publish if #9LX replaces chess. Lol. #saynoto2900
