What are your thoughts on Hermann Prey and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau?
Beautiful and profound timbre! He lived not very long after Gabriel Faure and Claude Debussy passed away. This is proper french singing by a real lyric baritone.

Would you say that he's a light baritone (Baryton-Martin) rather than a Lyric Baritone though?

@@Tanner-James Silly me. Light is probably his true fach
For years, I've used him as as model for the French melodie. He's the best to do it honestly.
I love his natural expression of the music. He obviously has the proper understanding of music and singing techniques. He was not pretend to be ''musicality'' but actually blanched and boring as today's singers. All of his singing came from heart and soul, and of course rigorously study.
What a baritone with a clear and beautiful voice!
His recordings were required listening while I was studying French art song during my voice lessons.
Love his singing! Thank you so much
Superbe version ! Souzay à son meilleur
Gorgeously sung and played!
The beauty of his voice and his interpretation is almost overwhelming! He really knew how to use his voice.
If one knows french very well & has familiarity with, his diction & sense of the text will make all utterly relishable. What a musician of a singer.
One of the most beautiful baritone voices.
I love Souzay.
Sublime....un canto così elegante...
Beautiful lyric❤
Bravo maestro Souzay! Much better than the overrated Fischer-Dieskau.
Wonderful voice . I was hoping to use his excellent pronunciation to help me answer the question of what is the difference between the two nasal sounds " an" and " on" but not as clearly as I had hoped. the word monde is particularly clear; there was another "-on" sound that started like õ and ended more like ã and there was a Dans which really did sound like õ so I think there must be genuine variation in this part of French pronunciation
There was an Aria by Handel sung by him where he displays also a good trill. I can't remember which aria, though. However... To me he sounds like a "lazy tenor"

Timbre is not also fach. His high register is limited. He is a light lyric baritone not made for most opera. He could best express his voice and personality in Lieder.
I like Souzay but his technique was not really good. Surprised to see him featured on this channel.

I am not inclined to agree, based on the performances themselves, but I'm interested in your reasons. Say more about it? Thank you.
