Freezing fog vortices at night
This was the one occasion this winter when the fog which affected BHX airport was all three of patchy, shallow and freezing. Temperature and dew point were both -4 degrees centigrade.
The effect of the planes' trailing wake vortices on the fog is obviously similar to the effect on clouds, except for the base of solid ground and the beautiful multi-coloured illumination by the runway lighting.

This is one of the BEST videos i've seen of vortices ever! I work at KORD and love being able to sit right off the threshold of a runway on foggy mornings. A great example of how long vortices can stick around as well. Great video!

Yes minus 4 is not really too bad if there is no wind and your are dressed appropriately! But it can be challenging for the hands, gloves do not make it easy to film in my case ;-) Any tips?

Here you can see the purpose of winglets: 757 without them made bigger vortices than other planes
I'm surprised no-one in comments have mentioned the anomaly at 0:48 , where it looks like there is magic in the air. It looks really mesmerizing.. Anyone know what it is?

Just my guess, very hot air from the core of the jet turbine itself rapidly cooling in the much cooler wake disturbance. Somewhat like a shockwave slowed by the cold ambient conditions.
