Maybe put the caramel in a squeeze bottle and warm just enough to make it drizzle a little easier. This sounds like a great yummy treat!

Yes! I bought the caramel syrup bottle but didn't like the artificial flavor but I agree that I will put the natural caramel in a bottle next time.

Use the can of dulce de leche from the baking aisle! It's what I use in my buttercream to make a caramel buttercream and it is a definite better product made from milk 🩷 and yes I'll be using my pastry bag to drizzle on my apples. I'm going to be making caramel apples for the first time in the freeze dryer today!! Tip* Use a Pringles can or tall straight cup or bottle for loading the pastry bag or a ziplock bag. (Whatever you have to use for squeezing) 😊

I have been doing this all summer and it’s my best seller! I got the idea of apple fries from you David. Then decided to try it with caramel sundae syrup. I only use honeycrisp apples and the syrup in a squirt bottle works best to put on the fries. I core my apples first and dunk the fries in a little lemon water to prevent browning. Line the fries up to prefreeze on a disposable tray. Put them in a big ziploc after frozen. When ready for the FD I line them up on a FD tray and squirt the caramel syrup on the fries. Perfect! It’s more time consuming than how you do it but I try to have individual fries, or sometimes two fries together.

Apple slices can also be dipped in pineapple juice to keep them from turning brown. It works great if you want to add a little sweetness.

Warm the carmel for 10 or 15 sec, then pour the Carmel in a piping bag and you will get a nice even drizzle over the apples.

Put the Carmel into a squeeze bottle with a tip like a ketchup bottle to control the flow of Carmel onto the apple slices. Also, maybe a little sprinkle of cinnamon would be nice.

You could mount it on the wall then let them fall into a bucket of lemon juice to keep them looking fresh and make bulk processing faster

I wonder what cutting the fries and tossing the apples in a bowl of caramel would do. Should be a much larger coating on the apples and might give you a different look of the fries.

I considered just dipping the end of the apple fry in caramel and also doing what you describe but wanted to do the drizzle first. I think there a lot of options to try!

I like this idea! I am going to be trying it out. I was wondering if you were to the caramel and pour it or drizzle it on top. Or even dip them after you have freeze-dried the apples and then candy mode. Thanks for sharing

As of yet I don't own a freeze dryer but I'm wondering to make it quicker to apply the carmel if putting it into a squeeze bottle might help. You could try a small hole for a little or a larger hole for more carmel.
