Have you tried landing with the wings swept? Would it be less likely to drop wing at a slower speed with wings swept? I know it is not the normal way, but I'm just curious.

Even in reverse, the EDFs yank the nose up a bit it seems.

So, I accidentally hit wing sweep instead of flaps today and landed wings swept. It came in fast and I flared to slow down and it landed just fine. Probably one of my better landing on this model. I have a problem of not having enough throttle on landing and it stalls a few feet off the ground.

It's a good one man...set up is key, and knowing the switches. Got to keep up with your sweep and flap switch positions.

Freewing truly made a special plane with this release. Will always be a fan of the F-14 Tomcat. Great size with great features and functionality. And as you guys mentioned, not overly difficult to transport. Thanks for the video!

Hi Adam, as I said before to you I was really looking forward to this video and it has not disappointed , was not expecting a guest review - one observation I would like to make , is that it seems a lot of these are how shall I say "Dropping out of the sky"! - chatting on forums, it sees that Motion RC have issued a video talking about an issue one might meet regarding the Gyro (not the gyro itselfs but the Elevon connections COULD be the wrong way around - the Motion RC video shows Wesley swapping these over to make the correction - so owners have attempted to correct his via the TX, but as soon as the Gyro is activated you are into a world of issues... it seems that enough of these have gone down , Due to this issue? - that the wider community thinks that Freewing and Motion RC should have made a world wide announcement and not just a video about the Gyro and almost casually talking about this.... Dustin here, I didnt have that issue, but another buddy of mine did. Luckily he checked the direction of the stabilizer before flight, and we found the video you mentioned. I would have never guessed that was the solution. Definitely important to check the gyro direction before any maiden flight, that's one of my personal nightmare scenarios haha.

Hey Martyn. I hadn't heard that until now. I see Dustin chimed in. He helped one of our other flying buddies Carl with one today (we flew til dark tonight). So glad you do your homework. By the time you mess with one you'll know what to look for. Yep, Motion might want to put that on the sales page. And forums, and everywhere. I agree with Dustin though...we always (should) check control direction and gyro correction direction before flying anything.

Impressive...Also .thrust reverse...I want one.

Dustin here, i did have the stabilizer on, honestly haven't flown it much without it yet. Typically just keep it on to dampen out the wind a bit. Thanks a lot!

Nice video and flying. The F-14 looks like a winner. I’d like to see more videos flying off grass. I did watch Rich’s. Most of us don’t have a runway. Great job!

I am wondering if people are miss-interpret the instructions for setting up flap to elevator mix. The manual states 1mm and 3mm down elevator. One way you can interpret this is the leading edge of the elevator is pointing to the bottom of the fuse. With full flying stabs this would cause the plane to lift its nose. When flaps are deployed in most planes the plane will nose up and you want a little down elevator to compensate. Again with flying stabs to make the plane go down the leading edge of the elevator must move up to the top of the fuse. So, when I read to put down elevator into the flap mix I think you need to have the elevator's leading edge move to the top of the fuse.

Hey, thats a fair point, the manual says the nose will rise when the flaps come down, so to use the elevator mix to compensate for that. I agree the verbiage is a bit confusing though. They probably should say "nose down elevator" or something like that. That said, i personally didnt notice any nose up pitch with flaps, so i ignored that mix all together and I'm happy with how it handles. Some may find it easier with a bit of nose down trim on landing though, sometimes it can help. Thanks.

Just for anyone reading this advice, after several more flights on this jet, I did eventually put some nose down elevator into the flap mix, and I think it helps. I didn't feel like it was needed to keep it level while flying, but on final approach I do think it helps to keep the nose down. If you flare very much at all with this one it will drop a wing. I've had a much higher percentage of pretty landings since I made that change.

When Duston setup his control throws did he used the measurements in the manual or the percentage in the manual? I am using a NX10 and the percentage is not very close to the measurements. Also, did he do Wesley's modification to the ailerons? Thanks in advance....

Dustin is still flying his several times a week, its doing fine. He set another one up for our buddy Carl...his is flying fine as well. I have no idea what your situation with yours is, so this isn't directed at you and may not be relevant to your issue/issues. That said, we have seen a lot of set up errors with other people, and people not being aware of how the flap/wing sweep safeguard works, and hitting switches out of order. Also we see many stall it landing. Dustin describes what is working well for him in this video both set up and flying wise. He comes in with a bit of power, and is careful not to get the nose up too far. If you come in power off, or try to come in at the higher angle of attack that works with many other EDF's...this one will stall. I've heard of random single wing sweeps happening, and that would suck and for sure cause a crash. That said, so far so good with the two I have first hand eyes on, and both owners enjoy flying them. I've flown Dustin's and Carl's, they fly good for us...that said, definitely for a more advanced pilot.

If I am not enjoying flying a model and dread it then I am done with it. I truly just wish I could undo the buy button. I set it up by the book and Wesley build video. Perhaps mine is just a lemon.

I get it man. When you're done you're done. To be fair Dustin is a very good pilot and flies a bit of everything, but he has been keying on EDF's a good bit the last couple of years. I've flown them for years as well and have flown a lot of heavier, more demanding scale planes. This one is a bit different for sure, and requires some specific techniques that differ from many sport/scale jets. Wind compounds that and makes it even more demanding. Some may enjoy that challenge, others won't. Par for the course in the hobby as the skill level required to fly a given plane increases.
