Freeman String Symphonizer walkthrough
Музыка
This is a brief demonstration of a recently serviced Freeman String Symphonizer, one of the first "string machine" keyboards from the 1970's.
I probably could've explained the "animation" better. Basically it's six non-sync'ed low frequency oscillators, mapped chromatically on one rank and non-harmonically on the other, such that you're not likely to hit two notes next to each other with the same LFO, and making each note wobble ever-so-slightly differently.
Folks will gripe about the microphone audio; if you've got a solution for how to make Pro Tools-created WAV files sync to iPhone video within iMovie (it always drifts on me right out of the gate), please let me know.

One just came up on Reverb. Thanks for demo!
I had one, loved it at the time. My favorite string synthesizer.
finally a good demo. it sounds so lovely
Thank you for this. I had one years ago with an old studio partner. I miss it every day. One of the richest, searing and most interesting of all string machines.

A buddy of mine in Atlanta has one that he's looking to part with. I could connect y'all up.
Sounds nice, Syntaur have a documentary about string synthesizers and the Symphonizer is there and sound celestial. But my favorite of all the string synths is the Korg Lambda.
Interesting keyboard. First heard about it from the "Jeff Beck Live with the Jan Hammer Group"--not sure which tracks it used on--but sounds like a potent thing for a keyboard player to have in that era.
Ooooh! I don't have the pedal. I need one of those!
I want one!

Never knew about this machine. Sounds really good! I wonder how it would sound with some chorus.
