Thanks for making this. I went through youtube after seeing the Mark Rober video and the fvp-slomo, this cleared a lot up. Less option for exposure, not really. The "shutter speed" as in exposure is more or less is built in your main fps. The shutter angle being at a optimum 180 degrees and the rest is you setting the fps, determening how fast the wheel has to spin and how long is the has to be exposure. It doesn't offer a reference point the of exposure time in seconds that you are normally probably used to look at. Looking it from a photography standpoint 1440fps has a 1/2880sec shutter speed at 180 angle, 1/840sec at 420fps, hence giving you a practical control of the exposure. Of course you can change the angle, but with that you are reducing the natural look of motion blur. And the iris is manual and ISO is fixed. Sucks for low light but that's slomo for you, even for a high end camera. Use variable ND-filters or dial down the iris if it's too bright. Same stuff different names or tools.

I'm not sure if you've done it already, but it's always pretty sweet to see sports in slow-mo. From a tennis ball being hit, to a player being tackled, any and every sport can look pretty cool. Plus they have the benefit of not being too hard to find someone to do for a quick photo shoot if you don't do it yourself. But just shooting this idea out there. Great video man! Very informative, and inspiring for sure!

Watching Rober's vid, I had a feeling it was you flying based on style. Way to keep the bar high mate, you are a legend!

I got my insta360 Go 2 in. It has pretty much the same exact issues. Quick to overheat. Limited Internal memory. Short non swappable battery life. Long delays in transferring data. But the pros outweigh the cons so far. But looking forward to a newer GO version 3, that addresses the current GO 2 pain points.

Liked !! Seen that camera last year before Jhonny's video and I was excited for people (other than me) to get it hhahaha. So what we wanna see in FPV with this camera is some fast flying around slow action, then you slow it down and it seems like it's some cg paused frame moving !! Try that :) example someone just riding a bike slow, but you come raging to it 😂

The shots in Mark Robers video were epic

neat... the heat sink would probably work better if you put a piece of tape over the fins to force the air along the fins instead of blowing into atmosphere. in machine vision cameras you can teach the camera to balance out those vertical noise lines. i'm not entirely sure how they do it but it's some sort of localized gain adjustment that gets calibrated and saved at the pixel level. Not sure if the mfg could do that with this cam or not. can you zoom in on the monitor to better check focus? would it be helpful if they could exchange refresh rate on the monitor for quality? Then your colors and sharpness should be better at the exchange for lower frame rate. i would think it's possible to do and keep the same bandwidth limitation. Happy Friday Gorgeous! Hey Nurk love the level of professionalism you bring to the table. I have a question when you use DJI on such an expensive cinema rig what size and what type of BEC do you use to have stable voltage to your DJI system ? I am having video freezing during flight. I changed FC to the Aikon F7 HD 20x20 I’m using the plug Supplied. I have the Fetteck spike absorber and I changed the capacitor to a 1000 UF cap I am still getting a picture freeze during flight I still have control of the model. I’m thinking that I need a BEC I’m running 6S 2306.5 1900 KV motors. My question is how can you trust DJI you must not be having this problem with your vistas how do you do it please tell me? I have been struggling with this for a year almost Dji‘s customer service is useless I’ve already sent the goggles back to them they’re saying there’s nothing wrong with them and they sent them back on an old firmware I had to upgrade to the latest. I am on 5.8 GHz only please give me some information that can save me otherwise this unit is going to destroy my gear and I’m going to never order DJ I products again which would be very upsetting As I love it !!!!

What's the quickest way to get the image into the computer so you see an actual preview at the real resolution, even if only a still image? Is it something you can do in seconds, and if so, how?

That is a nice camera. When is somebody going to make a 3d camera that can be transmitted to the goggles, so we can look any direction that we want, (via motion sensing on the goggles), while flying? Maybe you could do it? There are so many cool things to do with these drones.

I’ve been flying 3D FPV since 2005. Most of the earlier goggles do 3D. It’s great but only up close to objects. The 3D effect goes away with altitude.

Any thoughts on which style of cinelifter you prefer to fly? It seems like you have a massive cinewhoop as well as an eight motor dead cat style frame. I’m looking to fly mirrorless setups while I save my pennies for true cinema camera.

I like both and they're both two different things for different sorts of missions. However, I think I prefer flying the X8 to be honest.

10 stops, banding, global shutter,... so, its a Cmosis sensor then? Same as BMD, AJA, Leica, FlareIO use.... add a LowCon or DigiCon filter to lift the shadows and roll off the highlights. There are plenty of remote focus options, and you'd know more options for wireless HDMI links then most of us.

Man, I get why. I get it. As my cinelift hero, you know what the purpose and limits will afford you. Q: Why do your two monitor cameras in this video have such varying exposure? And B: will my Shen Insider 4" actually lift a dslr? Like a Canon Ti5?

Thanks, now I really know that we are gonna wait for a V2 before spending that amount of cash!

Great video and awesome camera! However, in my opinion it seems like an odd resolution and aspect ratio, if it's measured in pixels. Wider than wide-screen but not as wide as ultrawide. Somewhere between that 16:9 and 21:9 area. I'm curious the reasoning behind that? Cheers

It's a slomo standard. It has cinematic aspect ratios, but if you want some really fast framerates, you start to cut out vertical lines. The camera is a all arounder used for scientific purposes too so it climbs up to plus 9000+ fps, but the quality isn't good at that point and the aspect ratio is atrocious at 16:1.

Those resolutions were created by the Film industry, not for slo mo only. The math of them crops better to 2.39:1 aspect ratio, lookup "DCI 4K" to find out more.

The sample clips look (at least) 10 years behind in terms of color quality, dynamic range, and image contrast. I understand the continuous recording benefits from a specifications point of view, but incorporating this footage with modern camera output looks like a color grading nightmare.

This really feels like a first generation camera, (because it is). Hopefully the mark 2 and 3 of this camera have good dynamic range and add the creature comforts to make the camera more useable. Not having swappable batteries is the main reason I don’t want to buy one.

Just wondering something about that 180-degree shutter angle. If you select an 180-degree angle you get motion blur, which also unsharpens the image when you are moving. What is fundamentally wrong with choosing a lower shutter angle such as 45 degrees, keeping more detail in the source footage, and adding motion blur in postproduction when desired? In Resolve that seems to work well? But I am just a beginner with all this. What do I know?

Its a good question. The answer is "Saving Private Ryan", specifically the D-Day landing sequence, where the sharper motion is clear, and stuttered - objects jump frame to frame instead of smooth motion. Adding blur in posts costs time to render, and that eats up money in more hours the production has to pay for instead of shooting at the shutter speed that gets the desired blur.

​@@PiDsPagePrototypes : With that scene it adds to the drama, together with the shaking of the camera. It was an artistic choice to setup the cameras the way they did. Regarding the question: I tried it with Gopro footage during toying around with the new-to-me (Gopro) toy: shot with 180-degree shutter angle and shot with 45-degree shutter angle and added a bit of motion blur in Resolve using its 'better motion estimation' over a few frames. The end result feels the same, so I am leaning towards 'if you have only one chance for the shot, you want the most versatile source data possible and worry about details later. You cannot really correct overexposed/oversharpened/overmotionblurred footage'. Regarding extra rendering time and thus cost: the same can be said for color grading, framing, sharpening, and more operations that are often delegated to postprocessing, right? It might be me, but adding a bit of extra motion blur to footage increases the amount of time spent for a minute of end result insignificantly. Still, nobody does it, so I must be terribly wrong somewhere.

@@dabit4840 You're right in that you want the most versatile footage, though there's another rabbit hole to fall down there about producers who hire based on brand of gear owned, rather then skills learned. The extra render time does come in to effect, adding the blur in the process might only take a moment, but all the elements added in to the vision grow the render time on export, but you still have to pay for that, so you grow the post production budget more then cost of fitting the right filters and getting the blur in the original footage - The more you get right in camera, the less the whole production costs. But, like everything in film and TV production, there are many ways to get the desired results, and no one technique is right or is wrong, just some are more appropriate to each production.

​@@PiDsPagePrototypes : Thanks for the explanation. Sure, if you do it for a long time you can probably fit the exact filter and settings for a given situation faster than I can blink my eyes. But I am glad there seems nothing fundamentally wrong with choosing a lower shutter angle and doing 'cinematic motionblur' later when desired and amount according to taste. With 60fps instead of 24fps there is also a lot more data to correctly calculate the motion blur afterwards.

Is it full frame? You said the sensor was small? You can use some of the f.095 lenses if its a cropped sensor.

Not directly. This does not record audio, which is needed for steadxp. That being said, you could probably hack it together with some sort of external audio recorder.

thanks for the real-world review, that footage looks terrible, I was curious about the opening reel when it looked like the shot of the exploding color boxes had clipped highlights. I can understand them limiting some features but not even having a second ISO is absurd, it looks like 8-bit files I used to get on a AF-100 15 years ago and that dynamic range would make this thing unuseable. I would take less fps for 10 bit files with a log profile. Maybe they update the firmware someday, I can see why these are popping up on eBay for half the original cost

Because phones dont have Global Stutter, and because they compress the crap out of footage with a per-second data allowance, instead of a per-frame method,. So on a phone, you have less data per frame at higher speeds. 60fps has half the data per frame as 30. 120fps is quarter,.. and the image suffers because of it.

Im not a filmaker or anything but the fringing and grading throughout this video irked me! there was a green cast throughout most of the video and lots of purple/green fringing hope this feedback can help improve your videos and i mean no offence, informative video otherwise!
