I subscribe to a LOT of woodworking channels. I rarely find myself watching the ones without narration anymore. The talking is what really personalizes the content and keeps me engaged, and your scripts are some of the best out there.

As someone who needs to understand the context of the project especially when it's outside of my expertise, narration that is well done, engaging, and to the point is something I don't mind at all. And though making a second video without the narration requires more time out of your day, is a good way to get more views and make more people happy. Don't let the trolls pull you down.

@@Foureyes.Furniture it would have to be world class special to be worth watching the eversame cuts and sanding and finishing without any explanation of what idea sits behind "the build". Even though explaining the same step every time feels probably repetetive to both maker and consumer, every video is somebody's first woodmaking video and every video is somebody's 5,000th watch. There needs to be some sort of balance, at least giving hints about the design and steps and how this project is connected to what you do is essential to make thrilling content. Else you can just watch one of these channels showing 10 hours of trainrides without comment or a campfire or whatever. Woodworking isn't that zen ;)

Hi, I like to weigh in on this, I've Asperger's as well. The philosophical musings of our friend show to me he embraces the atypical. In that he has an overlap with what is reckognized by most as autistic behaviour. Also the monomanical pursuit of these project could define autistic behaviour, but, our woordworking friend shows also a lot of non-autistic trades. But where the atypical overlap shows? Mainly in the musings? Yeah... it's almost asmr! So, a relaxing bonus on top of the nice projects. Still... having said all this, can we have a non-slab project, the next time? A chair maybe?

I've been watching your channel for years, and the voice over is one of the best things about your videos. I'm a new woodworker so hearing you talk through your thought process and why something will or won't work is invaluable knowledge. And you have a nice voice. Keep it up, good sir. And thanks.

sometimes i wish i could just give a like twice for the amount quality and effort these videos must take. just like a double like. and i dont know if you and Shaun get this a lot, but your jokes are actually pretty funny, not that there were too many in this video, but just saying, you dont need to stop with the jokes. oh, and i cant wait for your mechanical pencil, it really does look awesome

Well, those people would be wrong. In my opinion. Anyways, people don’t tend to like or subscribe or support on patreon because they don’t like what a creator is doing. Rather the opposite, actually. I love your humor, and every comment I‘ve read so far here said about the same thing. You‘ll always find haters under every video of every big creator, no matter what kind of content you make. What’s important is that for you, the amount of people who love your stuff is disproportionately greater than the amount of haters. I‘m not against taking criticism to heart, that’s a good thing. But if they’re rude and hateful about it, they don’t deserve your attention. And if they want you to change anything, they can say that in a nice way.

I’m new to woodworking, as in building something furniture-like. I like videos where someone is talking through the process - it helps me absorb more of the lesson and the mild humor is entertaining. This coffee table looks like a good place to start getting beyond boxes and simple open shop cabinets. Thanks!

Hi, I’ve been watching your videos for a few years now. I absolutely adore the mid century aesthetic, so your designs really appeal to me. I just wanted to say that I don’t mind you talking and explaining your process at all. If I wanted woodworking ASMR I would look it up, but as a beginner I need people who explain as much as possible so that I can understand what the heck is going on. So thank you for all the time, effort and information that you put into your projects. And congrats on the new channel as well!

I gotta say, I super love the way you talk about your project and take us through the journey. I'm not a particularly good woodworker myself, but I always feel kind of involved and less intimidated by your craftsmanship. Like you said, if you just watch someone build something beautiful they just seem like they know everything, but you talk about your mistakes, your worries and such, that it really becomes very personal and mirrors my thoughts I have in my projects all the time...

I find you voice relaxing. Also when one vocalizes their thoughts, especially the whys to do or not do something, you are using a proven teaching technique. As a retired art teacher, I know this. So I love you voice over videos. Without your teaching I would miss a lot. So thank you for continuing to speak!

For what it's worth, I appreciate the talking. The self-deprecating humor, explanations of what is happening (or just happened), and details are great. I also absolutely love videos where it's just the sound of woodworking, and there are many channels for that, and now 1 more thanks to you. I kinda wish those other channels would do this too and make a talking version to explain what's going on. I'm sure it's twice the work to keep both running, but thanks for doing it.
