Free Solo Teardrop | Upgraded Mods

The SE Bushwhacker camper gathering gave us the opportunity to tour and review some amazing teardrop trailers. I couldn't believe the mods and rebuilds that people were able to do to their Free Solo and Bushwhacker campers. Check out Lewis's free solo trailer mods for some inspiration!

I've always felt the downside of teardrops was limited protected space. My favorite mods are always how people manage to get extra room that is weather- and bug-resistant. That ARB screen room seems nice and versatile.

Hey Dave, hopefully Lewis responds to this post. From what I know, he went to Joann fabrics and bought a waterproof vinyl material. He cut it to fit and fastened it with double-sided gorilla tape and they caulked it. I’ll try to get Lewis to circle in with better info.

  • @lewiswnellingerjr9433

@@DIYOutdoorLife Brian is correct. I measured the width after applying the Gorilla tape, approximately 4", then I carefully applied the the vinyl to the upper section before removing the plastic cover on the lower section. Once the upper was applied, I folded the vinyl up and out of the way, peeled off the plastic cover strip on the lower section (door), and carefully placed the vinyl on the Gorilla tape. That stuff is sticky, so have a plan and go slowly.

Thanks for showing the battery mod. I just acquired a lithium battery and I was intending to do something similar on my camper. I have an Everchill 12v fridge that runs my stock battery down in a couple of days. I plan on running an A/B/off selector. I have the 15 amp wall charger similar to the one in the video. I am also hoping to install a BCDC charger for those times I can not get any sun in my campsite.

@@DIYOutdoorLife It is in transit now, I should have it this week. I am putting the pieces together now to do the dual battery setup. First I am getting the pieces to make it functional, then I may look to add other stuff to let me use the trailer how I want. I decided to go with a dual battery setup instead of a powerstation so I could add the components I want, and wouldn't have to replace a whole powerstation if one item failed.

Anything for my newest channel member...lol 😀 He chose to run 2 batteries, although theyre not wired together. One is just connected to his fridge and has its own solar charge controller for recharge. The other runs the camper. This is a cool set up, but you don't need to do this to run a front-mounted fridge. You can buy the plug that I'll link below. Hook that to your battery and plug a fridge in that way. #ad amzn.to/3RnMLqM

There’s a little pick tool that I use to bend the prongs around with. It’s rarely an issues with the plastic part of the plug, usually it’s a bent conductor. If you take your time, you can usually get it to fit well again. Some times it’s annoying enough to replace the plug, that’s usually pretty easy too. Thanks for watching!
