this is so perfect i'm crying right now! i've been looking for this for a long time! thank you very much!
Thanks so much Kay, I've been looking for fonts etc I can use in Silhouette. I have made Q codes from your earlier tutorial a lot. Your tutorials are nice and easy - and don't waffle like so many!
I just came across this, and it was SO helpful! Thank you for taking the time to explain all of it.
I have learned so much from your videos. I want to thank you so much for the time you spend to teach us all these things. I am going to have to really concentrate on this lesson because my first attempt was a complete bust...lol. Not because of your teaching but because of my slow brain. Thanks for breaking it down for people like me with an older brain.
Awesome tutorial Kay - thank you! Love FLP and had no idea you could drag and drop fonts without having to installing them first!

I know! One of my favorite features of FLP. Often use it when I only need a short phrase and don't want to go to the trouble of installing.
Thank you so much for this! This is exactly what I was looking for to score words with my laser instead of engrave them which takes 10x as long!
Thank you so much, this is amazing and exactly what I was looking for. I’ll be taking a look at some of your other videos now as well.
Thank you Kay! It worked very well and turned out fantastic 👌
Thank you for this. I had a lot of problems with filling fonts in my Silly. This is much easier.
thanks! You are again my savior! Love your videos, every single one!
Thanks for your time. The video is excellent and the links are so helpful.
This is very helpful. Thanks for the video and links. I have just started foiling and my single line fonts are few and far between. Much appreciated.
Exactly what I needed!! Thanks very much!
thanks for making this video. I learned a lot!
This is brilliant! Thanks
You are gold!
Another great tutorial Kay.
Hi Kay, so good to see you. Haven't come across your videos in awhile. Hope you and yours are ok...
Thank you so much for this :)
-Great- _video_ *-thanks-*
Thanks!
thank you!
Thank you!
I'm so confused 😳! I'll have to watch this a few times.
First off, thank you immensely for all the time, effort, & work in effort to help the rest of us. I cannot begin to describe exactly how much you are truly appreciated. I have a question for you, FontLab Pad would work with SCAL wouldn't it? I'm trying to figure out a way to use these since I don't have Silhouette Designer Edition. I do have an older version of Inkscape and SCAL 3.0. Thank you very much in advance. God bless! 😊

Great question I also use SCAL
@cleversomeday
4 жыл бұрын
Yes, of course. The SVGs generated from FontLab Pad work with any program that can take SVGs, including SCAL. Also be aware the SCAL can use .OPF format fonts for setting open path type directly in SCAL. Most OPF format fonts are not free, however. For more info on this see cleversomeday.com/sketching Also, thank you for your kind comments!
Very nice, obrigado
Thank you so much! It sure would be nice if the manufacturer (Cricut, Silhouette, etc.) would include at least one single line font in their software. Geez...
Hi great vid thanks I have downloaded the files but my designer studio is telling me that the files are not supported, I am using a P.C are the files just for Mac users as I see you are on one?

Sorry me being a derr brain again! got it now :0)
thanks kay! if i install these fonts will i be able to use them in silhouette since they are "svg fonts"?
@cleversomeday

unfortunately no, because they carry an .svg suffix/format, not and .otf one.
Hi Kay thanks for the video 👍 I followed your instructions. The only difference I uploaded the svg into cricut DS, so i was sort of uploading an image. Then I inserted the image (contains the text). Of course I tried to weld it but I couldn’t because it’s image. I changed from cut to drawing pen. I attached the image (text) with the card. Then I press ‘make it’ it looks great on the screen , but I haven’t clicked okay yet. I wanted to ask you first if this sound right before I start cutting. Thanks. Mariam

It won't weld because it is open paths. Everything else sounds right. Please see video description for an easier way to use these fonts now.

@@cleversomeday hi Kay, I have another question something new to experiment! I watched another video you made few years ago (link below) but the difference that you managed to weld so why the one I made earlier was path and I couldn’t weld. What’s the difference between the 2 plz? Thanks kzread.info/dash/bejne/lad3zLJvY6zbg9Y.html
Thank you for this video, it was very helpful! Just one thing, if you have an Illustrator plugin for Cameo 4, this will work.
@edwardholmes91

I'm not certain, but it should do. As it's an SVG, it shouldn't matter whether it's sent to your cutter from the Illustrator plugin, or Silhouette Studio.
Thanks so much! Any chance you could also make available an image of the fonts - your video shows them loaded into Silhouette Studio so either a snap of that screen or a scan of the printed results. It would be nice to have a reference page of what each of the fonts looks like.

No idea but if you pause video at 10sec all the fonts are shown. There is the annoying youtube bar across the bottom but doesn't really block any. Screen print or use snipping tool then save as a jpeg.

If you saved a word or phrase from Font Lab Pad to SVG, then uploaded that, it should work unless DS is glitching. In that case, try uploading from mobile vs desktop or vice versa. Also please see the video description for an easier way to do this (won't help with DS glitches, though)
You r the best ! Any suggestions for Cricut?

Works exactly the same but after saving to file from Font Lab, just upload as a SVG in to DS.

Here's a video on using FLP for Cricut. The open path svg fonts can also be used this way. m.kzread.info/dash/bejne/lad3zLJvY6zbg9Y.html

@@cleversomeday I just tried this, while it did turn into a single line, it is very jagged, not smooth. Are there any tips for Cricut uploads to make them smooth fonts?
@cleversomeday
3 жыл бұрын
@@Amariebns some of these fonts are smoother than others, but in general once you draw them with Cricut the jagginess will not show since it doesn't draw very smooth anyway.
Thanks alot... Shame it must be Designer edition or above for imports... There must be a way though :)

sure, you can just import the .svg into an vector program like inkscape or illustrator and just export it as .dxf, thats it
i have been trying to get the fontlab pad but it doesn't sent me a link for it when i added my email. there was 4 other options on the site to download and do free trials of and it had information on the free fontlab pad but no link to download it? is it maybe called something else now?
@cleversomeday

no, it is still the same. check your spam folder and if you don't find it there, contact fontlab's customer service. I use FLP for lots of font workarounds but for this particular thing, please see the video link for an online tool that supersedes this.
When I go to gitlab and click on the download two things pop up.. Which one am I suppose to download?

As noted above, Designer Edition (or above) is required to open SVGs.
i could make the svg file, but curves of the font look like they have angles

They are made up of straight lines due to their CAD heritage, but that is less noticeable once drawn.
My letter O's dont work?
sadly this doesn't work for me. I have downloaded and unzipped the font files and when I drag them into Fontpad and type a word it just looks like black balloons on strings or weird musical notes, no matter which of the font types I drop in? Weird ...am so disappointed :0(

As noted around the 2 minute mark, the fonts do not display correctly in Font Lab Pad, but the SVGs still work fine.
Holy cow. If you write something more than Happy Birthday, it’ll take your Design Space software and hour to attach the text to a block and sort the project onto a mat! There’s got to be a better way.
@cleversomeday

The better way for Cricut would be to use Cricut writing fonts or generate the Hershey text in Inkscape where you can pre-attach it with Path>Combine.
All of my letter "o"s are completely filled in black when I open it in silhouette. How can I fix this?
