Lovely as always! I am now myself working on a stacked set of pendants, in which i have used transparent premo, with mixed in eye shadow and they look totaly awesome! I just now have out a doming layer of resin on top which really gives them a shine :)

SweetBioDesign I am so sorry I missed your comment... Thank you for the compliment! Are your flat pieces flat on both sides? If they are you can make a tile sandwich... smooth tile on the bottom face up, piece of paper or cardstock, then your polymer clay piece, then paper again, then another smooth tile face down on the very top. This keeps the flat pieces from warping while baking. I did a video on it years ago... will add it to the list again.

Hi Cindy, I would love to try this technique, but I do have a question: Is it possible to make a normal clay into a "makeshift pearl" one by adding a bit of mica powder and blending it all together? I'm still a beginner at polymer clay and can't find mica powder for sale in my country, but after watching many Christi Friesen videos I am hooked on the stuff and will order a set of colors from ebay soon! Would I be able to use this powder on a normal clay without drying it too much? Thanks! PS: Of course I know mica powder is usually applied only on the surface on the clay, but I'd like to know if it's possible to actually mix it into the clay.

What is your opinion on Pardo Mica Magic vs. Premo for this technique? My assumption would be that mica magic would be best, but I have never tried it.

Can you do this technique with regular clay and mica powder? Like having a flat piece of clay and coating it with mica and then press the texture in? :-)

These are beautiful! I'm wanting to know what kind of finish you put on these pieces to give then that smooth satin look?

I am guessing she just buffed it with wet/dry sandpaper and perhaps shined it with a cotton cloth. I use my dremel and a bunch of cotton fabric for the last step, but it isn't essential.

Hello PolymerClayTutor! Can you please help me on how to clean baked clay? I'm having trouble cleaning them... Thanks!

I've read somewhere that the results with this technique differ if, instead of cutting out the raised texture before baking the clay, you bake it with the texture and then sand it down until it's smooth. The article said we get a much more detailed design this way. Is this true? Could you test it? Thanks!

please help, me and my mom have arthritis and are not very strong do you have any suggestions on a great pasta matchine for us to roll our clay cause we are not srtong and we love working with polymer clay

I don't know if this is too late to help, or if anyone has suggested anything for you, but you can get a motor for your pasta machine! I hear it makes things much easier.

It's pretty labor-intensive, but you can actually make your own colored mica clays. You mix colored mica of your choice into translucent clay, whichever brand you prefer. You can use something like Pearl-Ex or Perfect Pearls, or you can buy mica powder from a source like TKB Trading or Coastal Scents. I've found the resulting mixture can be pretty dry, so if I find a mix to be too dry for my tastes, I add in a bit of liquid clay. The end result works well for any mica shifty type of project. Unfortunately, I can't really give you any specifics on how much mica to add to clay. I find it easiest to test it periodically to see if it's behaving the way I want it to. Other than that, it's just mixing (messy) inclusions into your clay! 😁 I hope this helps... and with this technique you're limited only by your dreams (and whatever colors of mica you have on hand)!

Nancy H That's what I explained in my previous comment. You start with a translucent clay (whichever translucent clay you want) and mica powder. You mix the mica powder into the translucent clay, and once it's fully mixed, you can use that mixed clay to do mica shifty things. Also, if the clay is too dry after you mix in the mica, you can add in some liquid clay.

So what company sells mica powders? I have some powders but didn't think they were mica. There used to be clays that had incredible colors of mica.

Nancy H You can find mica in lots of places. Craft stores like Michael's or Joanne Crafts carry mica powders under the names of Pearl Ex and Perfect Pearls. If you have sparkly makeup pigments, you can try those... I have a Barry M copper pigment that seems like it's pure mica. And if you really love metallic clays, you can buy mica powders from places like Coastal Scents or TKB Trading. They have a HUGE selection of micas, from metal-types of colors (gold, copper, bronze, etc) to vivid jewel tones to micas that show different colors depending on how the light hits them. I've got a pretty large selection of mica samples on hand. It might be fun to do a video on making your own metallic/pearl clays! I hope this helps you. 😁

No way, I hate sanding!
