Things I learned today, I make things more difficult than they need to be. I use too many plugins. I use plugins to fix things instead of make things better. I think too much and am unsure in my decisions and ability to where I spend hours mixing. This video has shown me more than just how to mix.

@@marcdanielnelson317 Wow Marc, to hear back from you wasn't expected. Thank you! What really surprised me about your workflow was how little you put on each track and how you focused more on the processing the buses. It made the song breathe so much better and although there was a lot going on, there was still space and let the song live. That's for the kind words and I really hope that I can make an impact in music like you and Warren have.

Marc, your videos are in a class of their own and the first I've ever wanted to return to. Your lessons in critical listening are organic, thoughtful and encouraging. The way you audition gear to tease out nuance is a million times more valuable than the hammer and nail approach so many others present. You're incredibly articulate about your process and a pleasure to listen to.

I love Marc's full mix videos. They allow you to consider in real time what you are hearing / what moves to make... and then in real time see what he is hearing and what moves he makes. I love that he keeps it moving. Not that there is anything wrong with other videos that break things down in micro-detail, but its great to see the advantages of achieving "the foundation" quickly before fatigue, 2nd guessing, and getting lost in the minutia sets in.

I would love to see a masterclass where the engineer takes the provided project and prepares it for the mix. First of all, this is probably the best mixing and producing channel out there. Congrats and thank you Warren! When we see a pro doing his art, like these marvelous one, some truths are exposed to our home studio work. Problably this raw multitrack without a single inserted plugin are years ahead our best final mix ever created in our home studios. And that might not be a mixing problem, but instead a bad producing or bad recording issue due to lack of experience. This song was 95% done by the end of recording sessions. If it was only a matter of plugging the cable and press record, there was no need for an engineer. Mixing is not fixing bad recordings or bad production choices. As Jordan Valeriote said, sometimes our mixes are even good, but our recordings don't. As soon as we press the red button and see the wave form in our DAW without noise, we assume we know record and start mixing. Again, the thing should be resolved in recording time. So on we start the talk about mix in the box, but no one talks about recording in the box. They all seem to omit the fact that those multitracks came from a hell of a studio with neve's, ssl's, neumann's and so on... The thing is, can we achieve a quality recording in our home studio with amp sim and programming drums? That's we're struggling with(at least I am). I just bought my first Sm57 for guitars and at first sight, it looks better than amps sims even with a U$ 40 amp. Not in guitar tone, but an organic and full bodied sound, wich should be part of an organic summing resulting in a radio like song we're used to(or am I a completely noob). This wonderful beast has 57 tracks on it. I import all of them, but started only with two faders of a piano and a beat and the thing was already there! Awesome! They complement each other. Ok, we know a bit about layering, to fill the spectrum... but if most of us just think we need that much, we will end up with a death metal-orchestral-electronic-rumble-noisy-mass. Well Warren, I think we'd appreciate to see a full song produced and recorded entirely on a home studio with budget equipment and vsts to continue our dreams of bedroom producer like a pro! LOL. Sheers mate!

This is an unbelievable video! First off I love the song selection! I'm actually a music producer and these videos help me understand how to take the song and present it how it's meant to be heard. The production alone is a very inspiring piece. The advice on deciding which stereo bus compressor is probably my favorite part in this video. I really appreciate how Marc can articulate exactly what he's listening for and not just slapping on the compressor and saying "I do this because I like it". As a student I think the most valuable piece of information is the why! Thanks for the great video! I'm always really happy to be a subscriber here :) Best

I don’t know how I got here from a “how much lsd did the Beatles do in the 60’s” video, but I’m glad I did. I quite not understand a lot of things, but I think I will have to start using compressors a little more.

Warren, I've learned so much from your own mix tutorials. This one was also brilliant. No BS, just here we go and 45 minutes later, we have a mix. Thanks for sharing it. Marc needs to cut some ASMR vids... Ha! Peace.

What i get from this video is that if the source is good, you don't really have to do much besides adding some sparkles in to it. That's why i think recording is so underrated for beginner. All beginner like me should have learn how to record first, only then we can go to the mixing part.
