I'm so glad you captured all of these moments with Denis. It's mind boggling that at the time of this recording, you could never ever imagine what would have happened 4 years later. These candid, sentimental, silly interactions with Denis are certainly to be treasured. Thank you, Shibsibs. Puts into perspective how life is fragile and how much we take our land of opportunity in the U.S. for granted. Hopefully, Denis' passing will spark the Kazakhstan government to put more investment and time in supporting youths and sports and the Olympics in general which Denis worked hard for!

I somehow just found these vlogs now (the algorithm failed me for years), and I thought I was getting emotional because I missed Javi, but then Denis came up and just. Damn. I'm glad I found new things with him even after all this time, but just. Unexpected. There's so many more young Kazhk skaters on the international stage nowadays, whenever I see them I have to cheer for them at least a little. I think Denis would have loved to see how his hard work, his legacy, has grown the sport so much in Kazakhstan just like he had hoped. He inspired so many to follow in his footsteps, and he'll never be forgotten thanks to it, even by those who never got to meet him themselves.
