I was never impressed with Filmic Pro but found a lot of use with motion cam even though I rarely utilize the raw video capabilities it offers

@@TaylorPassofaro Filmic Pro was a decent upgrade from the stock Android camera, even at a fairly high price (for an Android app) of ~£13. My old OnePlus Nord wouldn’t support USB microphones on anything, but Filmic did. Then they moved to a subscription model and everyone who had paid full price was left in the dust. Disgusting way to treat users, which is why I’m glad there is a free alternative coming that offers the same and better functionality.

​@@TaylorPassofaro Filmic Pro is on a whole other level. The quality you can get out is amazing but it can be quite buggy and I've had instances where I've lost video files but it's being worked on and improving all the time.

Excellent news, we just need Davinci Resolve for Android tablet.

Great to see! But I must admit, when you first walked over and showed the big monitor behind the phone, I had a quick fever dream that a mobile version of DaVinci Resolve was natively running from the phone through Dex.

Great news. Thanks! I was working mainly with 30fps timeliness so far but switching to 25fps and I can not set that framerate in Pixel 7pro native camera app. So this one should be more than handy 👌

If you shoot with motion cam you can shoot at 25fps, not sure if other 3rd party apps can do that

Awesome! I shot a short film a bit more than 3 years ago that could have really done with this. Instead, I used a paid app that was supposed to do a similar thing and it SAID that it was shooting in 24fps but it was actually 30... and because half the film was shot on the phone and the other half on a camera, it looked bad. I got my money back on the app but yeah... really wish I'd had this (and from now I would just do those bits on my S5 II with stabilisation turned on, instead of using the phone gimbal) - but back then I didn't have such luxuries. Thanks for the update Alex! Have fun in Vegas.

This is great! I know that you said they won't have AppleLog (obviously) but are they going to offer any sort of log profile for shooting in that bypasses the aggressive sharpening and nr and tonemapping? Also, are they going to bring BRAW to the app? I know it's possible since the Motion Cam app shoots true raw cinema dng on a ton of android phones with gorgeous results, but braw would be a lovely option 😊😊 Love your content, your DR 19 rundown was especially helpful yesterday!

Without any log, the main benefit is the cloud workflow really. I've honestly no idea in regards to braw or a log format. They weren't able to tell me much more unfortunately.​@@charliecooper3030

Glad to see this. I think they will launch this to be compatible with phones that have at least a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor (Samsung) and probably Tensor G2 for Pixel devices, and it will probably grow from there. They won't get 100% across android but they will be able to cover the most common devices that the user base would use this apple (Galaxy S Ultra devices and Pixel Pro devices)

Brilliant news indeed and look forward to it. However will the frame rate be restricted like it was on Fimic Pro, which I believe was a Samsung/Android and so higher frame rates were only allowed using the generic Samsung camera app.

Why not User raw ? This Apps seems to only have mp4, no cinenaDNG like motionCam

That;s so cool. I really hope they add log support or at least a similar style to Apple's Log with the sharpening removed etc. I switched from an S22U to iPhone after 10+ years of Android for Apple Log/BM Camera and Capture One support and I use BM camera/Apple Log daily. It's so so good for wide/establishing shots. Throw it on a cheap gimbal and you have a smooth steady 13/24mm lens on you at all times. Incredible useful, to be able to have that on the Android devices too would be epic.

I mean the default camera app on my phone back in 2019 already had all that along with hybrid log and raw photos. It matters more on apple because they don't give us those features, but android had all those half a decade ago already.

The iphone BM app is bonkers. Its actually faster to compose and shoor than having a BM camera which I traded in for the 15 Pro Max Pro Res Log. If youre an Android user, youre going to be thrilled too. Great NAB scoop

I was on iPhone X shooting my videos, and finally caved in last year and got the 15 Pro Max to be able to run the Blackmagic Camera App … and that was the best decision I’ve made in a looong time - so worth it and well worth the investment, and *so* much better than Filmic (and free).

The DJI Pocket 3 seems to working well Alex. 😉 There looks to be plenty to see at NAB. I suppose that it was easier to bring the app to iPhone as they are probably pretty standard across the range of phones. Hopefully The Android folk don't have too much longer to wait.

I'm curious how this will compare to the Pro Video function already available with Samsung Galaxy Ultra phones. You can already change all of these settings. I'll probably give it a shot when it comes out, to see for myself.

Where is the best place to get updates for this release?

How does this compare to the Samsung Pro Video mode (S23 Ultra) on the default camera app? They put camera assistant on Google play.
