Freddie's voice was too angelic... Whereas Dio could sing like both an angel and a demon at the same time. The man's growls still scare the living shit out of me. DIO ALL THE WAY

I can't quite tell who's objectively the more skilled vocalist because I don't know theory nor do I have trained ears but damn I swear Dio's voice was industry made for the genre, he would have invented metal by himself anyways if Sabbath, Purple and Zeppelin didn't show up. Ronnie James Dio is still the greatest ever in my opinion🤟

I don't think the comparision is absurd. Mercury always enjoyed to sing heavy songs (I Want It All and Gimme the Prize flert with metal), and Dio always was singing classic hard rock and blues (Mistreated and Catch the Rainbow). There is no Apples and Oranges, there is two eternal gems in the music history!

I've always thought these two had really similar sounding voices. You can absolutely tell them apart, but compared to anyone else on the planet...good luck trying to imitate the vocal power coming outta those two guys.

Freddy wasn't perfect alive. Dio was. Dio. 🤘🤘🔥

Both are excellent vocalists, of the highest caliber. In my opinion, Freddie has a fantastic falsetto, giving him a bit more range, and he is a consumate showman. But Ronnie has better technical abilities, a larger toolbox, if you will, with more versatility and power. Listen to them both live, just audio, and I think you'll agree that Dio is the winner. Oh, and for those who think Dio is a "metal or doo-wop only" singer, look up the songs he did for Roger Glover's "The Butterfly Ball and the Grasshoppers Feast" and tell me his voice isn't beautiful.

Freddie’s voice was a superb combination of power and passion. Truly one of the greatest. Ronnie, however, was even better. The best there ever was. 🤘🏻

I think Dio wins just for the messaging in his music. His career is just too powerful for any comparison. Tell me of another man who came close to playing with so many legendary groups and had such a powerful image and message in his songs and who sang about rainbows. Don't get me wrong Freddie was great but there have been many Freddies since. Similar style, music, messaging, and technique. There has never been another Dio. No one can ever come close to reproducing his magic and what he's left for this world is priceless. His music.

Marc isn't close neither are the other "sound a likes"; Dio is impossible to reproduce due his naturally large range and amazing technique showing how unique it was. Freddie however is also impossible to reproduce due to also having abnormalities in his vocals. Any one trained in the voice would be able to clearly differentiate Marc Martel from Freddie along with any of his tributes; same for Dio. Cheers!

@@eduardhermesanschau9590 Ele não falou nenhuma mentira, Freddie assim como muitos cantores sempre cantaram suas músicas em grande parte da mesma forma e sem muitas variações em termos melódicos; Dio era um camaleão em termos de capacidade de contrução de desenhos médicos em única música em um show para o outro e sem falar que ele era um mestre em manipulação vocal e compressão hiperglotal, ele manipulava perfeitamente sua entonação e dava a ele uma crítica habilidade pra cantar 3 a 4 tipos de vozes ou timbres diferentes de um disco para o outro; Freddie foi um dos maiores do rock sim mas Ronnie ao meu ver estava em outro nível em termos de capacidade vocal, poder, controle e consistência tonal.

Both are my favourite Singers. Its hard to pick my absolute favourite. I love them both. Dio is better for metal and Freddie is better for rock. Case Closed. ;)

In conclusion, these legends will never be beaten, for their history and voice, i dont think this 2 legends will fight, i think they will work together in the sky, to make the perfect sound in the heaven and hell... Interesting stuff... Dio and Freddie are quite close, in a musical sence. Closer than most people think. They are interesting to compare! Freddie had som problems live, and in a technical sence, he couldn't touch Dio. But Freddie was more playful and versatile. He didn't get stuck in a corner, like Dio. They were equally great, but in different ways. Dio was a better singer, but Freddie was more creative.

Freddy era como robert plant, se amarraban las pelotas en estudio y hacían cosas que en vivo, concierto tras concierto, eran inviables para sus cuerdas vocales. Dio en cambio, más conservador y genuino, plasmaba en estudio lo que en vivo también se pudiera lograr.

im a queen fan since i was 10 years old, (i have the Larry Lurex single of i can hear music, just to show you how fan i am of Mercury). When i was 22 i discovered Dio. I immediatly loved his voice coz Mercury and Dio has a lot i common. I also had the chance to knew Dio once in Barcelona. That said, Ronnie James Dio is the best best best singer in Rock history. Why? his voice is more than unique, you can find Greta singer sounding like Plant, or Marc Martel sounding like Freddie. But no one sounds like Dio, its imposible, its a mistery of this univers. His technic is owesome. His feeling is pure drama and emotion, his registers and colors are uniques. Mercury is at the same level than Dio but he fails in technic (you can see it live) and thats a big problem.

Great Comment. Never heard someone who has Dio's voice or even someone who can imitate him. Dio, Freddie, Plant, Gillan are some of the greatest singers of all time

Have you heard" how can i go on" freddie with montserrat caballe.... that's a different level, people tend to stick to commercial freddie songs and thats not where you csn see his true potential.

You can't compare Dio and Mercury as one was a metal singer and the other was a rock singer. Different techniques altogether. Both great and both sorely missed 😢

Dio could sing soft rock tho especially when he was in rainbow or elf

Freddie Mercury was one of the best live singers ever, and it wasn't just his voice. He was a LEGENDARY performer, and let's not forget their were a ton of truly great performers in his era...and he was the best. You want more proof that he is the best? Watch the tribute concert after his death. Those were/are all phenomenal singers, and none of them could sing any Queen song with anything near his vocal power

The DIO tribute album This is your life also shows that Dio couldn't be matched. Only imitated. Both were amazing. But I do still believe that Dio will reign over rock and metal forever.

You should choose queen's harder songs.. the hitman, i want it all, show must go on, headlong

I appreciate what you're saying dear friend The problem I faced when I made this video was that it's really rare to get hands on Acapella's, Dio has like 2 or 3 good quality Acapellas on entire internet To put these two juggernauts in a battle I thought to use similiar kind of songs from each of these legends and that would be heavy metal songs And I couldn't find naked versions of Freddie's heavy metal songs so has to use them upfront against Dio's heavy metal Acapella's

Dio tiene buen timbre de voz alcanza notas altas y bajas sin ningún problema sin acudir al falsete Freddie es técnico y lirico son estilos diferentes pero en lo personal me quedo con Dio ambos cientan con joyas musicales

Ronnie's early work was way way less raspy it really showed off how insane he was. he could do both soft singing and then growl

If you want to sing Rock your voice has to be perfect, but if you want to sing Metal your voice has to exceed the perfection P.S. Can you made a match between Dio vs Floor Jansen?
