I’m mad that there aren’t “Fred Astaire Crack” videos, or “5 minutes of Fred Astaire as the sassiest man alive” complications. He deserves it 😭😭

You got that right! The Nicholas Brothers in the movie Stormy Weather 1943. Fred Astaire called this the greatest movie musical sequence he had ever seen. Also loved the video, Lucky Numbers.

No, they actually had a lot of respect for Fred Astaire. There's a video of Astaire and the Nicholas Brothers dancing in the back lot of RKO studios in 1935. You can find that video on KZread. I personally prefer the Nicholas Brothers.

Yes, no jumping splits. Can’t be the best without jumping splits, No matter how much other variation you include. And I assume the Nicholas brothers were also masters at musical theater ballroom/tap/ballet with female partners as well And forget the flippant remark of George Balanchine, “He was like Bach - there was so much of the dance in him that it became distilled” As he would have said and did say, “I’m not a tap dancer. I’m a dancer” He had his genius solos. Yet, put the rest of the buck and wing crowd with Ginger or Rita Hayworth or Vera Ellen or Cyd Charisse or his sister Adele on stage and see what magic it would have resulted in. As Honey Cole’s said “The best dancer ever” “Not the best tap dancer” “The best dancer” and as ballet Baryshnikov said, “he is the enemy of dancers. You come home after an exhausting day feeling pretty good about yourself. You turn on the television and there he is. And you say to yourself, ‘I can’t dance!”
