This series won 2 Emmy Awards for Outstanding Original Song - Freakazoid! Main Theme and Outstanding Special Class Animated Program. The show did well, attracting many viewers during its initial run, but Warner Brothers tried to sell commercial slots on this show, on the basis that kids were its main audience. However, it soon turned out that most regular viewers were fourteen years or older. It was considered to move the show to primetime, but in the end, it was cancelled after twenty-four episodes. Paul Rugg, who had originally been hired as a writer for the show, was brought in to demonstrate what he thought Freakazoid should sound like when a suitable voice actor couldn't be found. The recording of his interpretation was submitted to executive producer Steven Spielberg for approval, and Rugg ended up being cast in the title role. The original concept of the show was brought up by Bruce Timm, who designed the characters with the intent of it being a serious superhero show like Batman the Animated Series, but after he designed the characters, Steven Spielberg decided to change it to a more comedic show. Despite enjoying working with the cast and loved working on a show that was "off the wall", Warner Bros canceled Freakzoid after two season. He would later do voice work for other WB cartoon shows as well. In a podcast interview with Mick Garris for Dread Central at Pensacon 2020, David Warner said that playing The Lobe was one of his favorite acting jobs of all time.

It was even worse when they moved it to Fridays in the second season and most of us missed the finale

I love that in the 60s it was radiation, in the 90s it was genetic engineering, but Freakazoid was like "nah...homie got zapped into cyberspace" 🤣 does anyone even call it "cyberspace" anymore? That's like calling it the "Information Super Highway"

I might get in trouble for this, but They should’ve made freakazoid the official mascot of the WB or kids WB since he was the first original animated character to appear on the network

It took me years to realize this "Floyd" character is the barber from "The Andy Griffith Show"!

I like the lore established in the intro that never really panned out to anything.

I don't really remember watching it, but i do remember the intro. Simply because of the live action chimpanzee. It was a real laugh out loud moment

They need a reboot of this show and make it a movie starring Ryan Reynolds’s!

If they do make a reboot, it’ll probably be terrible because of WB’s recent decisions regarding the Animaniacs & Tiny Toons reboots. The Animaniacs reboot picked up in season 2, but still not as good as the original. The humor of the original Freakazoid was just extreme absurdity to the 11th degree of randomness, topped with slapstick, pop-culture references, and parodies. I don’t think that a Freakazoid project could ever work with Paul Rugg’s involvement, and considering WB’s reboots of other 90s WB/Amblin collaborations not including any of the original crew(aside from voice actors and musicians for the Animaniacs reboot)who were so essential to the greatness of those shows, they’ll most likely go with a new, cheaper team of writers who will bastardize the spirit of the show.

The Animaniacs reboot ended because WB’s partnership with Hulu ended, so the 3rd season was cut short without the crew even knowing it was going to end. The 3rd season released 1 month after the 90s WB/Amblin cartoons went off of Hulu(which really pissed me off), which made the overall OK-ness of season 3 sting even more. On the topic of Freakazoid, if they did make a reboot, they’ll most likely ditch all of the original crew, who were 100% essential to how great the original was, and no one else could possibly match the comedic genius of the crew involved with those 90s WB cartoons.
