He set it fire, pushed into a water fountain and ran it through with a fencing epee. I think the writing in Frasier is amazing because they didn't have to dumb down the jokes for everyone (like most sitcoms do). People always comment how brilliant the writing and it's because they wrote it for smart characters. Not only that you have scenes/segments where it goes from Funny to sad to heartfelt all in 1 scene.

You need to watch more sitcoms. Del Boy falling through the bar or any number of moments in Blackadder, as well as the entire series of Fawlty Towers are considerably funnier than that. But then again, it is purely subjective, apart from the fact that the Del Boy one was actually voted as the number 1 funniest moment in sitcom history, in the UK anyway.

The dichotomies made the show brilliant. We all have a little everyman Marty Crane in us, but also the man-about-town intellectual. You had these urbane, haughty, cosmopolitan elites constantly reduced to toddlers, haranguing one another in childish ways. The writers had this dual-disposition down perfectly. The art of self-effacement is so human and warm and fun and beautiful.
