Not even Brit, but as another fan of re-nationalizing all public transit, around the world, these vids speak to me on a personal level. British Rail was a prime example of how absolutely incredible nationalized rail infrastructure could be, and it makes me SO glad they're coming back. Throwing in the engineering marvel of the old Routemasters is a great touch too- a bus truly designed by the people, for the people.

The British Rail that fucked up the modernisation plan. The British Rail that allowed the network to continually degrade from the 1960's onwards. The British Rail that still lingers on to this day because the government didn't full privatise the railways and allow them to actually have a fresh start, but insisted on this worst of both worlds mixed public and private ownership with the benefits of neither and detriments of both.

Okay, you had me at the drifting bus.

We NEED to bring back rear-entry buses, with bus conductors too! Imagine just hopping on a bus, and it leaving immediately after the passengers have embarked - the bus conductor dealing with the money on the move. I once missed a bus by about 3 seconds, and the driver refused to open the doors as he sat at the red light 4 feet from the stop for 2 minutes, and it makes me seethe with rage to this day. In the '60s, I would have been on that bus, and the driver wouldn't have lifted a finger for me to be so.

@@theearthguy1814 I think the recent introduction of the Superloop bus services in London is recognition that some form of quicker transport for the roads is needed. A lot of areas outside of the capital have become overdeveloped into areas that can't even sustain that kind of system despite needing it.

Labour haven't come out in favour of full nationalisation right now since... we're broke, but incoming powers and funding for councils will help alleviate the current status quo in which all but the largest councils are completely victim to the whims of private bus operators.
