Lyrics:
Oh, what a night
Late December, back in '63
What a very special time for me
As I remember, what a night
Oh, what a night
You know, I didn't even know her name
But I was never gonna be the same
What a lady, what a night
Oh, I, I got a funny feeling
When she walked in the room
And my, as I recall
It ended much too soon
(Oh, what a night)
Hypnotizing, mesmerizing me
She was everything I dreamed she'd be
Sweet surrender, what a night
And I felt a rush
Like a rolling bolt of thunder
Spinning my head around
And takin' my body under
(Oh, what a night)
Oh, I got a funny feeling
When she walked in the room
And my, as I recall
It ended much too soon
(Oh, what a night)
Why'd it take so long to see the light?
Seemed so wrong, but now it seems so right
What a lady, what a night
Oh, I felt a rush
Like a rolling bolt of thunder
Spinning my head around
And takin' my body under
(Oh, what a night)
Do do do, do do, do do do do
(Oh, what a night)
Do do do, do do, do do do do
(Oh, what a night)
Do do do, do do, do do do do
(Oh, what a night)
Do do do, do do, do do do do...

It is more of a bridge than a chorus. Ironically, this is one of their best songs, and Frankie was hardly in it. I remember seeing/hearing that there was something wrong with his voice at the time this was recorded, so he could only participate in a limited fashion.

@@mikehenningsen8796 There’s a comment from live version of this song where a lady claims that Gerry Polci was her HS music teacher in the 80s. After his gig with the Four Seasons ended, he needed work so he got hired on at a high school somewhere on the east coast and never brought it up to his students. The girl saw him a few years ago and she asked if that was him. Apparently, it took him by surprise and he kind of blew it off at first until she pressed him about it and he finally came clean before telling her “Alright… now, beat it kid!”😁

My dad was an engineer in NYC and did sessions for a lot of the Brill Building acts. He said when a group records a hit everyone in the booth knows it. He always said that any song that charts on top they knew it was a hit before they put their coats on. My dad and other people would get asked by producers if it sounded alright because most of the guys were professional musicians in the booth. He had to go to the lobby of the studio and get one of the gofers to cover a guitar, or sometimes play a song through for the bands drummer.

That's because for the bands that history will truly remember, members were rarely picked for their looks. But for their talent. Or for their dancing ability. I don't want people dancing and singing. I want people simply singing. They can move around a little bit but it's the singing that I need

@@KICKBOXER27 i wasn’t alive during the 70s and i was brought up around other types of music. But I can get into this though, very relaxing music for when I’m driving or just when I’m in a good mood.
Gerry Polci was (and is) a real asset to this group, with his clear, expressive voice and his masterful work with the drums. He should have become more well-known but I think his reward was to make good music with his friends. He later had a full career as a high-school music teacher and also kept performing, right up to the present, at age 69. You can find videos of him playing solos with very prestigious groups. I'm sure he's well-known and regarded by all professionals in music. This song and his rendition of it is one of my personal favorites. I feel a tug at my heart, whenever I hear it. And by the way, Gerry Polci married Frankie Valli's daughter.
