Frankfurt in ONE Day!
Hello Hoppers! Although I had been to Frankfurt many times (especially to the airport) I had never really taken a "tour" of the city. I was amazed at how much I was able to see in ONE day! My dear friend, LDEM, must take credit for this, as she guided me through the city like a real pro. Thank youuuuuu!
For me the best word to describe Frankfurt is BUSY. It is the business and financial center of Germany and the home of the European Central Bank. It has one of the world's largest stock exchanges and the third largest airport in Europe. Unlike most European cities, it has a skyline and so it is sometimes referred to as "Mainhattan," getting Main (pronounced mine) from the river located in the city. Yet, it is a liveable city, offering a broad selection of shops, from high-end to discount, and a rich collection of museums and cultural events. It has excellent public transportation and plenty to do. Can't miss a visit to an apple-wine tavern or a stroll along the Main River. It also hosts some of Europe's largest trade fairs, including the Frankfurt Auto Show and the Frankfurt Book Fair. So Frankfurt is a great city to visit and to live in!

When you crossed the river to the apple wine place did you have to take a ferry? Or also by foot? Also, is it easy for English speakers in terms of signage and getting directions?

You can walk across. No need to take a ferry. The distance is close. The signs are in German but many people in Frankfurt speak English and many restaurants in Germany, especially the touristy or popular ones offer an English menu. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

Did you have to drive to these places or were you able to just walk there from the bridge?

No, no, no, I walked the whole way. No car or public transportation taken. It really isn't that much of a distance from one place to another. I don't remember exactly, but I must have walked about 12 km total for the whole day. I was tired by the end of the day but OK. Thanks for contacting me and watching my channel!

MuchoHop one last question. Should I take a taxi from hotel (which is one mile from Frankfurt international airport) to main Frankfurt ? Or should I just walk?

It's too far to walk. I don't know exactly where your hotel is but a taxi might cost you 30€. From FRA Airport there are many ways of getting into the city center, to the Hauptbahnhof, which is the Central Train Station in Frankfurt am Main. For about 2€ you can take the regional train S-Bahn S83152 or S83151. There are also Bohr buses but they cost around 14€. There are also DB buses from the Fernbf (Bus Stop) for 3€ but not sure about these. Then, lastly, from the Long Distance train station you can also take a train to Frankfurt am Main. But the best and easiest is take the S-Bahn! Hope this helps.

You don't say where you are traveling from. If it is a long travel, or if you have to drive, I would stay in a hotel. I always like to reduce stress if possible. I would not stay in a hotel if I will be out late at night and have an early flight or train in the morning but I doubt that is the case with a 9-year-old. So, it is just more comfortable and relaxing to get a good nights sleep, especially if you have to travel, and especially with a child. It is a terrible feeling to not sleep and having to travel the next day. I hope this helps.

Ohhhh, definitely yes! When I have an early flight I'm always worried the public transportation will be delayed or there will be traffic, or many people at the airport, etc, so I stay at a hotel at the airport. If you book with time you can find a pretty good deal. You can stay at the Sheraton, Hilton, or Hilton Garden Inn (I've stayed at all 3). They are all fine, not cheap, but for me it is worth paying 100-130 euros and just crossing the street in the morning to get to my terminal. I would recommend you be at the airport at least 3 hours before your flight since Frankfurt Airport is very big and sometimes it can get very busy. I'd rather wait around than have to rush to my gate, especially with a child, although he is grown. And you don't want to miss the plane. Staying at the airport the night before an early flight just makes it alot more relaxing. At the building called The Squaire there are restaurants, supermarket, cafés, drug store, etc. if you need anything. Glad you liked it! Berlin and Frankfurt are very different. Frankfurt is a business center whereas Berlin is more artsy, young, bohemian. Berlin is also much larger than Frankfurt. I walked to all the sights I showed in this video of Frankfurt. It has a population of about 600K. However, in Berlin, you would need to take public transportation. Berlin has a population of about 3.5 million. Hope this answers your question. xxx
