Frank Zappa - Radio Interview 1989

Frank Zappa
KNON 89.3 FM Interview
Dallas, Texas
August 18, 1989
(original notes)
When Frank was promoting his autobiography, I had the good fortune of being a DJ at a local Community Radio station KNON.
Although our show was 2 hours of live Grateful Dead, I was able to get Frank on for a one hour interview. I followed that with an hour of great Zappa.
Frank was incredibly gracious and SO FUN to talk with. I hope you enjoy this interview.

A great Zappa interview. Frank always seemed to interview well with young(er) unpretentious fans like this. A lot of nerdy fan questions which Frank seemed to really enjoy (especially the Damp Ankles story). Maybe my favourite interview with FZ.

This is a great interview! Obviously conducted by a fan and Frank Zappa is in good spirits. Thanks!

One of the best Zappa interviews I've ever heard. He seems to be calm and relaxed in knowledge of the fact that he's in the capable hands of someone who doesn't want to upstage him or lecture him on something like so many interviewers tried. Well done!

I love how Frank pronounces Kirsty McColl's dad Ewan McColl's name as "You-Ann"!

A shame Frank was never able to release the version of "Dead Girls Of London" with the Van Morrison vocals, that's my favourite version.

Great upload man. Was there ever a second “randomized” interview with frank as he mentioned towards the end?

There's a black bra on that quilt obtained from a barmaid who worked at Chester Drawers club in Ridgewood New Jersey, given to Frank on stage at the Beacon in 1988 on the head of a ukulele erroneously labeled as being owned by Don Ho. ARF
