The film, an adaptation of the play by Neil Simon, was based upon Simon's relationship with his comedy writer brother, Danny Simon. This montage with Sinatra singing a Sammy Cahn and Jimmy Van Heusen song written expressly for the film, is a highlight.

Finally one of the best movie-song clips with Frank Sinatra on KZread; "The Makeover" from the motion picture "Come Blow Your Horn" (1963). Probably also one of his best (but not most famous) songs too... I love this tune arranged by Nelson Riddle!!! :-*** By the way, after the makeover they both go to to have martinis @Toots Shor, a classic & historic New York bar/restaurant - unfortunately not there anymore... enjoy anyhow!!)

@3.28 When did men stop wearing hats like this? I don’t know what it was, but a real hat (as opposed to the modern ugly and tasteless back-to-front baseball caps) just added that final touch of class and style to men’s outfits. And, as another famous Sinatra song said; “You’ve either got or you haven’t got style.”

I saw it at Radio City Music Hall in July 1963. I had accompanied my aunt on a buying trip in the Garment District. She was the buyer for a ladies' dress shop in Charleston SC. I was 15 at the time and got a real education going with my aunt into all of the "houses" selling ladies' clothing. Jonathan Logan was one I remember. Also during that trip my aunt and I saw "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum" with Zero Mostel at the Alvin Theater. Great trip, unforgettable.

Sinatra (who I love), plays a dapper dressed punk in this musical scene, espousing the virtue of moral turpitude to his kid brother, whereby he begins the scene by tricking an elderly man from a cab; later at 0:50, he admonishes his brother for apologizing to an elderly man for bumping into him.

Make like a Mister Milquetoast and you'll get shut out, Make like a Mister Meek and you'll get cut out, Make like a little lamb, and wham, you're shorn, I tell ya, chum, it's time to come blow your horn. Make like a Mister Mumbles and you're a zero, Make like a Mister Big; they dig a hero. You've got to sound your "A" the day you're born, I tell ya, chum, it's time to come blow your horn. PUBBLICITÀ The taller the tree is the sweeter the peach, I'll give you the whole maguilla in a one word speach: Reach! Make like the world's your pudding, but light the brandy, Even the mildest kiss is a dan, dan, dandy, There'll be no love in bloom come doomsday morn, I tell ya, chum, it's time to come blow your horn. [Musical Interlude] In civilized jungles females adore The lions who come on swingin'; if you wanna score - roar! You can be either read to or be the reader, You can be either lead or be the leader. Don't wait until you're told you're old and worn, Take in some air and get your lips puckered, Before you find you're simply too tuckered, I'll tell ya, chum, it's time to come blow your horn. Blow your horn, I tell ya, chum, it's time to come blow your horn

Imagine what this was like for Tony Bill, playing alongside the most famous singer/actor of the mid 20th Century. His role was actually challenging because he had no dialogue, so he had to "act" using only gestures and facial expressions. It's funny how much taller he is than Sinatra. He graduated from Notre Dame in 1962 so he must have gone directly to Hollywood to make this 1963 movie.

My Dad had two favorite singers: Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland. When I was a little kid, Frank and Judy could usually be heard from his beloved Magnavox HiFi, in our tiny little living room. When I was a little older (by now I knew ALL the songs and lyrics by heart), I asked him what was so special about his two favorites. He smiled and replied, "There are plenty of great singers out there, but only two have such impeccable timing, Sinatra and Garland...they're in a league of their own." Years later, I learned what Dad had been talking about...this short clip is a fine example. "Come Blow Your Horn" is a nice little piece, and Frank's relaxed (but precise) style mates so perfectly with the orchestra, the relatively ordinary song becomes a great piece that brings the movie's title to life, in a BIG way. Only a few days after my Dad's 50th birthday, Judy Garland passed....he was heartbroken. He continued playing their music well into his 90s. Whenever I hear either Sinatra or Garland singing, I remember how much Dad loved their music, and so appreciated their special talents. Miss you everyday, Dad.
