Frank Gorshin Selectavision Product Demo 1977

Ғылым және технология

Back in the sixties and seventies, Frank Gorshin was the penultimate impressionist, appearing many times on the Ed Sullivan Show and in other venues. He became the Riddler on the Batman TV Show in the late sixties. In 1977, RCA tapped his many talents to produce this 24 minute Product Demo which was given to dealers to play on the new RCA VHS "Selectavision" home video recorder. This clip came directly from one of those VHS demo tapes, so the quality is pretty good.

We actually had this tape! My grandfather passed away in December of 1978, and we inherited the floor demo model Selectavision from his shop when it closed, including this tape, the pause control, and the plug-in black-and-white camera. You killed my rat, you dirty brother!

So great watching this. I remember seeing this VCR and that demo tape at a K Mart store in the late 70s and dreaming of owning one.

This video repeats about 5 times! It must've been on one of those video tapes that would be played in stores. The video would repeat as long as there is enough tape. This video, by the way, I actually saw in the store. I was less than 10 years old at the time. I was there when an employee was starting the video. What good timing! I know this guy was demonstrating what can be done on a VCR, although I didn't know he was the guy who played The Riddler. THIS is my second time seeing the video!

I had the privilege of playing 12 shows with Frank when I was a youngster. Playing saxophone. It was this year - this material. What isn't captured on video - he would turn to face us in the band and TRANSFORM. It was frikkin' weird. When he turned back to the crowd - he was NO LONGER the previous person - at all - he was the next person. After doing 4 shows - he stopped doing the "normal" shows and switched it all up to entertain *us* in the band. The guy was amazing. I got paid, he gave everybody a bottle of J&B and was genuinely kind, humble and a guy you wanted to be around. miss the fucker ;)

I bought an RCA Selectavision in 1978. They cost $750 in those days. Tapes cost $25. I used mine constantly and it lasted for many years. I still have it in my garage. Great memories.

    未だVHSやβが発売される前のビデオですか?日本もVコード、VXが有りましたが、古い規格は、日本には、馴染みませんでした。
