Yes, that's true. I am/was a musician (guitar player) and I get excited about this band and music and especially Frank Gambale. Today was the first time I've heard of him. Unbelievable...

Maybe not totally true - I had a girlfriend years ago who wasn't a musician but she loved Mahavishnu Orchestra. I got upset because she said she preferred John McLaughlin's music to Allan Holdsworth! She was pretty rare though! 😄

One of the most versatile , amazingly phrased , musically expressive shredders on the face of this planet ! Frank has it all ! Total respect & admiration for his genius !
incredible guitarist, musical genius, and he seems a very nice guy!
Frank Gambale is unreal. What a player! I see he was using the Marshall JMP-1 Preamp here. Nice.

That version of Passages is amazing!! Should be listened to by everyone in the world, perhaps prescribed by doctors. As someone else aptly commented, it is 'musical Indica', and should be used in times of stress.

Yeah you're right. he is on fire here.
Great concert - keyboard solo in Humpty Dumpty (piece starting at 15'17'') is incredible !
What a breathtaking performance of Nunzio’s Near. Frank shows us why he’s one of the best! The drummer Walfredo Reyes Jr. is awesome too. He plays for Chicago now.
I think Frank watches this and realizes how awesome that strat style guitar sounds and finally is about to release his FG-2 strat . I will be placing my order now .
I saw him with Vital Information a year earlier and my jaw was on the floor the entire show. I had heard a couple of his recordings, but seeing it in person was like one of the wonders of the world.
I went to GIT with Frank and Hendo in ‘83. Got to do a few performances of his originals at the program. He is brilliant in writing, arranging and rehearsing the band in countless catchy tunes. I swear he writes them effortlessly on the toilet.
I lived in North Hollywood back in '89. I went to Dick Grove School of Music then... After graduating from a Midwest College with a B.A. Poly Science. and Music Performance. I learned more out in L.A. in one year, being swamped in the music scene than 4 1/2 years at an "institution" I remember going to see Frank at the.. "Baked Potato" Just being blown away!!! A few years ago I saw him with Return to Forever .. Getting back stage .. and telling him about seeing him ... "back in the day" He smiled, asked me .. "So what do you do?" I told him I had a corporate job for about 13 years... But of late ? I now teach guitar for a living with a methodology that has brought what I learned from LA here.. to Minnesota.. I was rather shy about it.. First thing he said? "No man, what you're doing is an honorable and noble profession.. Bless you ! ..." What a great guy.. Great Guitarist. and ... Someone who stepped back "from the lights" and gave another of the profession a kind word... Blessings to Frank!

That's a lesson that I seem to be hearing more and more. Thank you.
I had the honor of going to school in LA at The Guitar Institute of technology with Frank Gambale back in 1982-3 era... From the first time he played in a performance class "everybody" knew he was going to be a famous guitarist !!! It was also VERY intimidating to go up on stage after he played... I'm a Blues / Rock / Light Fusion guy... not even close to his league... but it was cool to be there before he burst onto the music scene...!!!

I always wondered about this. Did you or anyone see the difference between Frank as a freshman and when he graduated? Did he come to GIT as an already accomplished player or did he just become a beast during his tenure at GIT? I suspect he was pretty incredible when he first showed up.

I was there at that time as well.. it was a golden era .. Henderson just started with Ponty.. Gibert.. Gamble..and Herring where all there as students . You could walk down the hall an hear them playing with Robben Ford Jeff Berlin .. Joe Diorio.. even Don Mock or Howard Roberts at the time !That kind of exposure was priceless and those lessons have stayed with me to this day.. it was an honor ! It was 3000,00 when we went ..its 30.0000 now ..ouch . I stayed with Frank and some other student / teachers in North Hollywood. He was downstairs and you could always! hear him practicing . he was working at sweep picking at the time . He is a pretty cool guy ..and dedicated. I took some courses Dick Grove .. it was a different focus.. composing .but Mi training really helped with the theory. I miss that red Strat that he brought out from Australia. He sounded great on that . His dream even back then was to play with Chick Corea. He proves that with hard work and talent dreams can come true .The timing was right for it back then as well .Thanks for posting.. it brought some great memories back.

Outstanding musician , one of the greatest guitarists & just an amazing human being ! Had a chance to meet Mr Gambale in South Africa at one of his clinics . We chatted for about 30 min ! Gracious & humble individual , with guitar chops to match ! Remember as if it was yesterday !!!

Wow. I remember when I picked up his live CD in the 80's. Unreal. What an amazing player. His technique was out of this world, but it never was over the music. Frank is a legend among guitarists. He has such feeling in his playing.
He switches over to solidbody at about 28:25. I never was into "soft jazz" until I heard Gambale's albums. We are so lucky to have him to watch and learn from. He seems very happy.
Very soulful playing! Love when Frank plays on melodic rock tunes, he has so much felling and soul in his tone :)
The passages solo is just plain sick

Frank Gambale is the GREATEST player too this date!!! I can't understand why people keep banging on about Jimi Hendrix,Stevie Ray Vaughan,John Mayer,Eric Clapton & Carlos Santana etc.... Frank Gambale is the GREATEST no matter what style he's playing!!! Pound for pound he is more than a match for Yngwie Malmsteen & Michael Angelo Batio for speed & he is as melodic as you can get!!! Their must be something in the water in Australia because let's not forget Brett Garsead!!!!!!!

Sweet. I was actually at this show. I could probably point myself out in the audience if I tried, vaguely recall where I was sitting. :-)
Simply marvelous !!!
The whole show is impressive, but the solo section in Little Charmer is jaw-dropping. Not only Frank goes wild with unbelievable phrasing and skill, but also the way the band raises dynamics, the whole build-up... Insanely good.
Ah little charmer! Master was playing this song at begining of chopbuilder video lesson. And many years long this song was like a backgroud song for my life.
スウィープの神様ポールの師匠‼フランク ガンバレ。Jazzyな感じが大好きです。
