Guitar: 1883 Antonio de Torres, SE49 SP/MP (ex Francisco Tárrega) (www.guitarsalon.com/product/a...)
Here's Pepe Romero performing "Maria (Gavota)" by Francisco Tárrega on the composers second Antonio de Torres guitar - this one made in 1883, numbered SE49, made with spruce top and maple back and sides. Recorded at the Guitar Salon International showroom in Santa Monica, CA.
Pepe Romero "Vintage & Flamenco" light tension strings (www.guitarsalon.com/product/p...) were used on this guitar for this recording.
Huge thanks to the folks at Apogee Electronics (ApogeeDigital.com) for the use of their Ensemble interface in these recordings.

The Maestro himself smiling at the end. Me too! Thank you!
What a marvel........
Maestoso, maestro.
I’ve just watched this on repeat. Every note is nurtured and given love. The music is an expression of love ,I’m appreciating this more as I get older. My favourite artist!
The best guitar player the teacher all of teachers
Pepe Romero doesn't simply "play" the music, he offers so much more. He gives his students so much to aspire to and emulate, and we are all his students. Thank you Pepe!
Lovely, just the right speed.
Beautiful! I can see what I am doing wrong when I listen to Pepe. He enjoys every note. Where as I just get it done.
Of all the versions here on YT i like Pepe's interpretation more, his attention to little details is unmatched, also he doesn't rush with unnecessary speed, he lets the music breath

Same here! Took my family to his concert at Fort Worth recently and it took our breath away! My 10 year old is learning classical guitar he was so excited to tell his teacher about concert. His teacher couldn't believe we got the opportunity to see Pepe in real life :) He is teaching my son this piece as new assignment and encouraging him to come up with his own interpretations as inspired by Pepe.
Mr romero you are just SO excellent. A joy to listen to. Wishing you and GSI many blessings
Older I become, I appreciate small Torres guitars. Sweetness, balance of the tone. It never gives too much, not too less. It’s just perfect. What sets apart Torres guitars to me is. There are other makers louder dynamic guitars which a player will make others listen. These Torres are small and loud enough for the size of the guitar, but it makes audience want to hear more instead of a players try to make others listen. When the audience focus to hear the voice they will find a sweet perfection and rewarded from the discovery. Torres to me at least is a magical perfect guitar that allows the revelation of its secret to only those who listen and touch and play.

Well said, such a delight too hear, slow romantic tempo on Maria, I've played for 25yrs too fast!!!
Sonidos puros, limpios, tempo Perfecto, ❤❤❤❤
Maestro, gracias por hacerme sentir esta música.
Pepe gives me chills. Really makes the melody ring.
Como siempre,una magnífica interpretación!!!!👏👏👏
Piece, player & approach are quite Divine in this. Bravo!

The Best!!!!
Such master over dynamics
Magnificent 👏👏👏👏👏
gracias maestro!
Muy bien, que linda Guitarra
Wunderbare Musiker und Musik 🌹🌹
Ok here is my humble opinion. The master of technical classical guitar of our time is irrefutably David Russell. But of feel and evoking thoughts, memories, and feelings with just a piece of wood with six strings. Well that is without a doubt Pepe Romero.

It was playing in the background while I was doing some weekend cleaning when it hit me how perfectly executed and tonally rich the pieces were being performed. It has an almost piano like fluidity and sounds so un-guitar like. He has transcended to a new level of playing.

@@enriquemendez1507 how about you hear Leonhardt or Pierre Hantaii play it in the Cembalo and then try to hear it again on guitar? I truly cant. That being said, very good effort indeed, although in the Prelude I do think Tal Hurwitz is way, way, way better. Sadly we only have that movement and not the whole thing. Don't take me wrong, David is a monster, but I do think he shines more on Barrios and other music composed by him. Bach always makes people split hairs and the overall approach is not 100% my cup of tea. But guitarristically immaculate though.
👏👏👏🌟
The guitar sounds great, but that's because Pepe Romero is so great. Most of the tone is in those hands. I need to hear a normal person play it. I always think that maple back and sides make for too much high end, but this sounds perfect. Of course, it'sTarrega's guitar, so what else can you say?

Pepe knows the heart of Spanish sentiment.
This vid clearly shows that having small hands is not an issue. 🌝
Como suena esa guitarra....
Has the guitar been rebuilt over the yrs, or is it as it was originally.?
Just wonderful. Why indulge idiots with the unnecessary dislike button?

With just that few dislikes a lot of times the button is just pressed by accident, I've done that myself ☺️👍
Nice, but the rubato spoils it a bit. And don’t need rest strokes these days
