Francis Scott Key Bridge Collapse (My Comments)

This is just my thoughts about the disaster in Baltimore where the Francis Scott Key Bridge was hit by the container ship Dali...

Jeff. As a retired captain, I’d like to suggest why the black smoke appears before the ship makes a SHARP turn to starboard and consequently, hits the pier. I believe the engines were momentarily restarted and they were placed in reverse in an attempt to slow the ship. As you know, when the props are in reverse, the ship’s stern will move to port and the bow will move to starboard. This is what happened here. It was a mistake to reverse the engines. If they had just coasted, they (may have) missed the pier.

Agree with your comment. It's very clear your explanation, but at the end of this and about you said it is hypothetical, the staff on command of the ship under this unpleasant situation chose to comply with the emergency procedures. It was an accident, not an incident.😢

That’s what I think also. They were in a hard port when restarting and the full reverse with rudder still hard port.

Yes, this is a plausible theory. However, it will depends on whether or not the ship has a right or left handed wheel.

There's conspiracy theories and then there's facts and the facts are it is very strange a container ship of all things would veer off course running into a major artery bridge like this. I watch a trucker on KZread who goes to Baltimore very often to drop off export striker airport firetrucks bound for Europe and various other equipment saying that he went more away from the bridge on the outer edges to the ports outside of Baltimore itself and the biggest deal is he said he could deliver there and everything would just stack up if it wasn't for the Chesapeake throughway causeway having tunnels so that something like that wouldn't happen and the ships would go over the tunneled road instead of under it.

We will not really know much until this investigation is completed.. And hope you had a good trip back to the US.. As always. My friend looking forward to your next video.. my condolences to those who lost loved one's in this accident and my prayers to those who were on board the ship at the time of the accident..To the crew and the pilots whenever an incident like this happens there is usually always some guilt felt by those who are on the bridge and engine room..I'm sure they did all in there power to avoid this tragic accident and my thoughts and prayers are with them..

@@JeffOnboard last year here in near by Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a bridge just collapsed. There was a long bus with that extension on the back of the bus to make it probably about 15 or 20 feet longer, and I think a couple cars, it fell just a few minutes walk away from Carnegie Mellon University of all places, one of the top engineering schools in the world. This area is located in what is known as Allegheny County. there are more than 2000 bridges located in Allegheny County. there is one bridge called the McKees rocks bridge that connects McKees rocks to upper north side of Pittsburgh. On route 65. That bridge is well over a mile long. I am so glad. I do not have to use that bridge daily or ever. it is very high.. it is curved, and it is over a mile long. All of the concrete sidewalks buckled about 25 or 30 years ago maybe longer closing the sidewalk, it used to be four lanes, now it’s just two lanes. At rush-hour, there are times when there are possibly over 100 cars including tractor trailers, stopped on the bridge waiting their turn at the traffic lights on either end of the bridge. there is another bridge within sight of the McKees rocks Bridge on the northside. It’s in the news, locally quite often because of parts of the bridge falling into the community below… in fact, just about every year one bridge or the other is being closed for repairs causing traffic headaches. That is the inevitable in “the city of Bridges.”

There seem to be talk on social media, about this Container Ship, having circle breaker issues? Directly becauae of the number of "Reefer - Boxes" onboard, keep tripping the vessels electric circuit breakers. That is all the time, plus this has been going on for sometime too, maybe since before the Container Ship arrived in the Port of Baltimore too! Or it is to do with the high number of Refrigeration Shipping (10ft, 20ft, 30ft and 40ft long) Containers, that has been loaded onboard this Container Ship too, more than this vessel's electrical syatem can handle maybe too? So has been tripping the vessel's onboard electrical Circuit Breakers, all the time and for at least 48 hours before. The Container Ship left the Vontainer Terminal dockside, in the Port of Baltimore too? Also not only was the Container Ship Captain and Chief Engineer, plus all the crew onboard aware of this, so was the Ship's Owners and Shipping Operators too! As well as the Port of Baltimore Authorities Officials, also the Container Terminal Management too. Were equally aware of this information too, with some asking and the suggesting now too. This Container Ship, should not have been allowed, or given official permission to sail. Until this Circuit Beaker issue, had been fully addressed and resolved plus corrected and repairs had been officially sign off on. That this Container Ship, was safe to go to sea under her own power too? Which makes you wonder if anyone told the NTSB investigators about this, or has these NTSB invesigators found this out for themselves too. Or the NTSB officials, will now be looking into this Electric Circuit Breakers issues onboard this Container Ship too? Because if there is a Circuit Breaker issue on this Container Ship, also proper repairs have not been carried out too? Then there should still be a Circuit Breaker Issue, onboard this Container Ship now happening as well? If the "Reefer's" onboard were causing the Electric Circuit Breakers to trip, then someone trip to share the loading across different Ship's electrical supply Circuits. All they could have done, is expose other onboard electrical supply Circuits, to equally start tripping. There by causing a ship wide electrical blackout, as seem to have happened on this Container ship. Before the Container Ship colliding with this bridge piers and support colnums, or caused the collision to happen! As a direct result of a ship wide blackout from these tripped Circuit Breakers contectedcto "Reefer's" onboard. So causing total lost of power to ship's propeller, also the Ship's rudder plus the Ship's bow side thrusters too!

The Key lies on why the Dali that was moving straight veered to the right towards the pillar, as it was approching the bridge , Now the heading of the vessel does not depend on the propulsion but on the momentum, which was making a 8 knots headway , So a power loss could not have made the ship to veer, but by the action taken by the ship , which was the mistake, before which black smoke was being emitted through the funnel , caused by emergency Stern thrust to slow down , further dropping the port anchor, It should be understood that for a vessel making a forward momentum of 8 knots, Stern or Bow thrust would have no effect i, & gicing a stern thrust would make the bow to cant/Swing to the right , thus headed straight to the pillar , crashing, What should have been done after restoring emergency power to the steering was to not try & slow down, inc dropping the anchor, but to cntinue navigating under the bridge using the 8 knots momentum,

Honestly Jeff, I've been following this whole thing off and on and I think there would have to have been some kind of human error involved because this bridge is way off the regular course the ships would take to enter the port and most of it sounds really fishy to me given why would this even happen in a major port city which splits two regions of the country? I think there is more to the story I think has alot to do with what's been happening with the fires to the processing plants and the fires in the panhandle of Texas. I think most of this is intentional and I think we as Americans better get really vigilant before what we consume is taken away from us.

The other day I had a dream in the morning before I woke up and the goalie kicked me the futebol and I did a running sliding kick because I saw a chance to kick the ball down near the next team's goal but I actually kicked the sliding glass door next to my bed I hit my foot pretty hard I never understand why things like that happen. Dreams can be so powerful

They should hire the Seven Borealis that can lift 5000 tons and is currently in barbados. Dont have to cut that much then it could reach Baltimore in 6 days. The us sadly just have 1000ton cranes and one 1800ton crane that is the biggest.

And yes. It’s a busy port. Lots of cars and agriculture equipment. And fuel…. All 3 of those things. Our current administration is trying to get rid of it!!! 💯

It’s funny how a worker from Boeing was “suicided” the day he was supposed to go give his testimony!!! You think every harbor pilot is self righteous and can’t be bought??? I don’t think it’s terrorist either. The recorder has its only battery. So to be told. ALREADY… that it stopped recording…. Shows they are already trying to get a story out there. Hours after accident. Pilots union puts out a statement saying they did everything correctly…. Of the recorder didn’t get everything. And if they have no information to give to the public…. How come they know then nothing was done wrong???? Also. If the dropped the port anchor?? Why did it steer right. And not just drift… the ship was turned!!! And the camera shows that!!!
