@@PyromancerRift Many people like me use their laptop most on the go so it's important to know what kind of performance to expect. The battery life at full performance varies from one laptop to the other and a MBP will last much longer than the average laptop, definitely longer than an hour and a half. It's one on few laptops that would allow you to work on a complex After Effects during a full flight without losing performance or worrying about battery life.

Small precision, the CPU inside this laptop is an AMD 7840U (8 cores, 16 threads) processor, not a 7040U. The "7040" is the name of the product segment and not the name of the actual CPU.

3:51 Interestingly it's actually the opposite way around iirc: Intel used to give OEMs a discount if they were willing to put the stickers on the laptop. That's why you only saw sticker-free keyboard decks on more expensive laptops because design was valued higher and they figured their customers would be willing to pay the difference to have a cleaner, sticker-free deck.

Most folks wear headphones or are using Bluetooth speakers or something. All laptop speakers are fair too poor. Always have been. I love the DIY aspect and just trying to decided if I go 13 or 16. Its use case is portable work when I am on film set and need another computer besides my Lighting Console (custom 4U Rack Server Ryzen). Or as a tracking back up for lighting. Having the ability to have 2 display ports is huge. Without needing a dock. I am a purple girl but that lavender is blah I agree with you. Thank you for the review ❤

Back on the Intel 12th gen revisions I was considering the Framework to a refurb 14 M1 Pro...the M1 won out for a lot of reasons but let me tell you, it was a tough decision. Now with the Ryzen board I'd be an even tougher option. I'm not editing video, just photo's and I have children who *love* to touch my laptop with wet, greasy hands or bang other objects on it. It gives me anxiety because you're not replacing anything on the MacBook. So, I still think about selling the Mac and getting the Framework. I'm just too invested in MacOS at this point.

The not hiring gthe sticker guy part didn't made sense to me. LIke companies put the stickers on the laptops because it gives them discount per unit from the manufacturer as it sort of advertises the processor or the GPU for which the company gives discount to the system integrator. And I feel the reason why framework can't put a sticker on their laptop is because their interior components can be changed with other parts like intel cpu instead of AMD so it doesn't gives assurance to the manufacturer that their sticker is actually serving purpose and thus Framework is required to pay extra to Intel/AMD/Nvidia.

I need to get a laptop to take on the road, light LR editing and very quick and easy 4k edits in Davinci Resolve 18 Studio (using proxies) (DJI air3 DLOG-M and Canon R5 vids) would this laptop be able to handle that? Looking at the AMD 7840U with 64GB RAM. I have my desktop pc for the heavy lifting with photo/video editing I just need something when away for weeks at a time. I need something ultra portable and reliable to take with me. Mac is not an option and I love the idea of this being upgradable.

I like the idea of this, especially the configurable ports, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of savings. I'm able to keep my macbook pros for 8-10 years because I buy them with a lot of RAM and because they are built well enough to last. I've never had a non-mac laptop last more than 4 years before it physically breaks down. It seems unlikely to me that the Framework laptop would last long enough (through enough upgrade cycles) to save enough $ to beat a long lasting macbook. You can get more performance per $ from non-macs but over time the well built macbook becomes the better value.

It is true that Macbooks, when they run well, can last a long time. But repairability is where the Framework has a huge advantage. Unfortunately Apple has set up their ecosystem to where you have to have an Apple professional repair it for an insane amount of money. For me I love the peace of mind that if a part malfunctions or breaks, I can easily get the part and slap it on myself. I just find it an added perk that you can always upgrade little bits of it later as they improve.
