    I went to Penn in the late 50s and my roommates tried out for the Fralinger. These guys are just plain FUN!!!!! They are so Irish and I'm Jewish and I love them.

    My mother lived in Philadelphia in the 1920s and when we got our first black & white TV in 1951 we watched the mummers parade every New Years from then on. This is great music. I live in Northern Michigan now and can now watch these bands on my cell phone on You Tube. It reminds me of home where I grew up near Harrisburg.

    This is absolutely one of my favorite videos. Anytime I need a lift, I turn it on. I've watched it more times than you would think in all these years. Love the little boy. In three minutes, I'm smiling and singing. And in five minutes, I've probably done my laundry and danced all the way in and out of the laundry room. :)

    Now, over a thousand miles away, this gives me such wonderful memories of my childhood in South Philly. We froze every new years day watching the parade on broad street. (The freezing wasn't fun...)

    Love,love,love this arrangement. This is the first recording where I actually heard the string bass. Without them a sound would make the piece lacking a fullness.

    The have a Colorado Mummers Chapter? What’s the difference between North Philly & South Philly ? Is there a West Philly String band?

    Perhaps northeast Philly. Most of the people that lived in West Philly years ago moved either to northeast Philly or the burbs.

    Never been to Philly, and have never heard of these guys before today. Gotta say, this is awesome. Every major city should have something akin to these guys and should play in the streets once monthly. It just brightens the day and looks like everyone is having a damn good time.

    Considered the "powerhouse band" of the Phila. Mummers String Bands. Also I think they have won first in music performance most times in recent years.

    I just found you! That little capt. to be is a real sweetie. Does he have a harmonica?

  • @JoyceEttingoff

    @JoyceEttingoff

    Looks like a harmonica. We used to live at 52d and Market Over the Store and I was allowed to go out on our corner and play harmonica with the boys. It was great. I don't think women could be Mummers. My mother was a professional trumpet player with Eddie Fisher. I always wished she could be a Mummer. I think she did. The little boy is wonderful.
