12/12/2017 On a cold winter day, a Federal Railroad Inspection (FRA) train is seen examining the tracks along Watco's Kanawha River Railroad. Running under the ID of KN37, the train begins making its way from Nitro, West Virginia to Elmore, WV.
The section between Nitro and Alloy is along the former New York Central while the section between Alloy and Elmore is along the former Virginian Railway.
Pulling the train is an unusual visitor to the area in the former of Elgin, Joliet, and Eastern EMD SD38-2 number 658. While the 658 now sports Canadian National (CN) paint instead of its original orange and green scheme, its presence in the area still garnered the attention of other railfans.
You'll see what begins as a cloudy day turn into a winter wonderland as the 658 and its train progress towards Elmore.
