I fully believe foxtail grasses are carnivorous plants. They dig into animals and the place where they die provides a fully nutritious spot for the seeds to grow.

Your a good doctor for animals. I wish a vets were just as good as you. thank you! 😊👍
Soooo relieved to see this video. He's such a nice and caring vet! After watching some astonishing videos of Dr. Pol and the way he treats the animals, this was such a great video to restore my faith in vet humanity.
This guy is excellent. Great Vet!
My two dogs (now passed) used to get these wretched seeds stuck in their ears and they come from a grass plant we called barley grass (Hordeum glaucum and H. leporinum Google these to see what they look like) because the seeds are just like barley seeds. Most times the seeds would penetrate the ear drum and the seed spikes stop the seed form falling back out of the ear much in the same way as the barbs work on fish hooks. Keep up with the good work doc:D
What I love about this video (other than the level of professionalism and care show by the vet) is that after the painful and distressing removal of the foxtail from his right ear, the dog doesn't complain at all when the vet looks in his left ear to ensure it's clear. It's almost like he now understands that the vet is trying to help him.
Watching the assistant smile and love on the dog warmed my heart up!!! So cute
Wow, I have watched a lot of these kinds of vids, and this is one of the absolute best! So informative, concise, and pleasant. Loved it! So happy that sweet pup feels better.

watching your videos makes me want to be a vet, I'm really glad to see someone who truely cares about animals :)
I just went through this today. Due to generous rains this year, foxtails are plentiful. My dog was walking in the sun and stopped to roll in a shaded patch of grass. She then started to yelp horrifically and shake her head. I tried to look in the ear, but she attacked me. It was a long walk home and a few hundred dollars before she was well again. My dog is vicious at the Vet's and so the whole process was very stressful. She had to be sedated for the ear probing, so I had her given the works. Nail clipping and vaccinations. She is now sleeping, peacefully.
Vet did an amazing job, I’m happy jack got the help he needed
I love the explanations and diagrams, not just a long sob story. Great job!!

400 dollars for some ointment and 2 minutes with a surgical forceps. Typical vet.
@petnaby

The cost is mostly due to paying someone that's trained to do it and the facilities that they have. If you think it's too much you can try doing it yourself and see how well that goes for your and your pet. Plus it's more expensive depending on where you live.

What a good dog. I wish I could've taken my dog to you when he had a foxtail in his ear, back in 2002. Day one, he screamed while out walking and I took him immediately to the vet. He gets looked over, and nothing. That night he was laying in bed, wincing and uncomfortable. I take him in the next day, as he starts to favor his ear. Nothing again. That evening he starts pooping all over the house, I know this is a terrible warning sign that he isn't well. I get on the internet and read about foxtails. I take him BACK to the vet (they happened to be 24 hours) and insist that he be checked thoroughly, this time specifically for foxtails. Which they finally find in his ear. I then tell them that I will never come back, and will not pay any bill, here's my attorneys information
