Foxtail in a Dogs Ear: Removing a Plant Seed

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

I fully believe foxtail grasses are carnivorous plants. They dig into animals and the place where they die provides a fully nutritious spot for the seeds to grow.

My two dogs (now passed) used to get these wretched seeds stuck in their ears and they come from a grass plant we called barley grass (Hordeum glaucum and H. leporinum Google these to see what they look like) because the seeds are just like barley seeds. Most times the seeds would penetrate the ear drum and the seed spikes stop the seed form falling back out of the ear much in the same way as the barbs work on fish hooks. Keep up with the good work doc:D

  • @name2589

What I love about this video (other than the level of professionalism and care show by the vet) is that after the painful and distressing removal of the foxtail from his right ear, the dog doesn't complain at all when the vet looks in his left ear to ensure it's clear. It's almost like he now understands that the vet is trying to help him.

I just went through this today. Due to generous rains this year, foxtails are plentiful. My dog was walking in the sun and stopped to roll in a shaded patch of grass. She then started to yelp horrifically and shake her head. I tried to look in the ear, but she attacked me. It was a long walk home and a few hundred dollars before she was well again. My dog is vicious at the Vet's and so the whole process was very stressful. She had to be sedated for the ear probing, so I had her given the works. Nail clipping and vaccinations. She is now sleeping, peacefully.

What a good dog. I wish I could've taken my dog to you when he had a foxtail in his ear, back in 2002. Day one, he screamed while out walking and I took him immediately to the vet. He gets looked over, and nothing. That night he was laying in bed, wincing and uncomfortable. I take him in the next day, as he starts to favor his ear. Nothing again. That evening he starts pooping all over the house, I know this is a terrible warning sign that he isn't well. I get on the internet and read about foxtails. I take him BACK to the vet (they happened to be 24 hours) and insist that he be checked thoroughly, this time specifically for foxtails. Which they finally find in his ear. I then tell them that I will never come back, and will not pay any bill, here's my attorneys information

…because you're an entitled, low life idiot - straight up. Maybe next time you show up 30 seconds late for work, you shouldn't be paid for the week. How's that sound? Please use your head. It's people like you that will be the demise of civilization. I'm also assuming that wasn't your first time stiffing someone?

challengerbrant So the vet should be paid for letting the situation get worse by not thoroughly checking the animal? Fuck off.

a man who stands up straight in the world would have acknowledged poor and inadequate service/skills and on round two, went elsewhere. A man with no other outlet, who engages in round two is a man in need. A man in need is weak, and has no high ground. Buddy engaged in a monetary contract. Men think with logic and more importantly, moral integrity. The two of you are pipsqueaks, trying to gain traction because you lack self worth. You'll learn one day - perhaps when you're 100. Jack the pup was feeling pretty good at the end there, no nasty foxtail, little bit of happy juice floating through him, a nice ointment and a lovely massage of the hurt by kind knowing gentle hands. Good on mama for taking him in to get seen to by this wonderful fellow.
