FOXBODY Ford Mustang 2 STEP And Wiring REPAIR *Rolls Royce Plans*

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Josh's 1992 Ford Mustang LX Fox Body is turning into a very streetable car with the Comp Cams Xtreme Energy cam and Holley Sniper fuel management. Today we're working on the little things that make it easy to drive, including one big one, the dash lights. Power steering pump, audio system tuning, 2-Step setup, headlight adjustment, and lots of wiring repair... we're getting it done!

I had a 92 gt fox body 5.0 but it was a auto, actually was given to me by my dad who got it used in the early 2000s and seen it on one of those early Saturday morning used car shows LOL had 80k miles no rust (that we could see, was Def underneath that plastic cladding), was a fun car, and what's amazing is that when I turned 16 and got my license he gave it to me as my FIRST CAR! Lol what a fun first car, they were only rated at 225hp and 300lbs of torque. Not sure if they were under rated but it definitely got beat on. Held up pretty well, blew the steering rack and eventually the trans went. I drove it for a while with the bad trans making running/grinding noises the entire time until it wouldn't drive anymore. Ended up sitting for some years until we needed the garage space and it got sold as is for 2k. Bad trans, wouldn't crank due to starter relay blowing, no exhaust (all rotted away from Wisconsin winters) sure it needed many other things as well.

You need to relay mod the headlights, doesn't matter what kinda lights you have if all the power runs through the switch. It's really easy to do; you unpin the sockets. Run 12v power to the relay. from battery. Relay power(trigger wire) from switch to turn on lo and or hi beam. Ground wire to relay ground. And socket ground. The mod let's the switch be a switch to turn on the lights, which get all their power from the battery instead of the switch having to support all the power with the undersized wiring for the job. You'll keep burning out switches otherwise, even with running bigger wiring, since that increases the current. I did the mod with my crown vic because they have a similar problem and used two relays for lo beam and two relays for hibeam for safty and redundancy, so I didn't lose all light if a relay burnt out.

Wow, didn't think Milwaukee cordless impact wrench would have that power, thinking days of gutless 12v cordless screwdriver. Reminded of days with limited funds, thinking part-time job in high-school and college when you had to wait for payday to get gas. Options for power steering pump/alternator.. etc brand new, rebuilt, used - pulling from a scrapyard, or rebuilding. Power steering: seal kit ($20), snap ring and take the opportunity to replace hoses.

So... Let me give you a little pro-tip. The wires on those new connectors are that length, so you can stagger your electrical connections apart an inch and a half to 2-inch. So you won't have to worry about electrical interference and current jumping from one side of joint to the other. And it will fit back in the wiring loom properly. Don't be afraid to cut into that Loom. It's only cheap conduit. Or remove parts, to get to the areas that you need to reach. The book gives you plenty of time to do the job properly . The trick is to make it look more like, you were never there. And less like, a crime scene. Your headlamp switch gets hot, because the ignition is rolling back to its proper setting, it's drawing current from two sources. Replace ignition cylinder, with the same type of key as the one that came from the factory. If it was a silver key, use a silver key. If it was a black key. Use the black key I just went through all of this with an 88 Fox T-Bird. The fusible links in those cars rot out over time as well. So do the ground wires. I also replaced my power and ground from the battery, with O cable. And added a body to engine ground. This helped stabilize the voltage coming out of the regulator. This helps direct more energy towards the ignition, then to the areas that don't require as much.

On old Mopars all the current goes through the small wires into the amp guage. A bunch goes through the headlight switch when they are on, and the dimmer switch on the floor gets cooked on the low beam setting between the amperage and always get wet and corroded. Sounds like Ford has done similar stupid stuff. I have resoldered and beefed up the flimsy pins with tiny trim nails soldered in place. Had to do similar to my 95 Neon and my 78 van needs all the connectors and pins redone too. Welcome to dealing with older stuff that wasn't designed to last 30 or 40 years or more.
