Extreme informative video...and it's a request for bihar agriculture university and bihar government too...kindly do something in favour of these workers....provide them proper salary and improve there standard of living too....

We pay 120 for 100 gm but I think not even 30 rs goes to them

now my respect for this makhana increased lot. so much efforts and time is consumed to make it.

Nature makes everything with effective time and efforts, we destroy or consume without thinking of it. Eg. Paper is made with wood -> it takes years to become a tree.

Now i know why this is so costly. So much efforts go into this and this is mostly manual. Hope things improve both for consumers and farmers

Indian Government and Private companies should commercialize makhana seeds. It should be processed and packed like Lays or any other commercially available snack/chips products in the market. There by helping its poor farmers to produce more and fetch profits....

I never even knew what makhana were so I was curious and searched it up..and God :( our countrymen work so so hard ... majority of India...how long will it take for us to ensure a basic living standard for our farmers :(( I never knew what I roast so carelessly needs..so so much hardwork. I accidentally even burned and wasted some..ah..

At first my respects to them for hard working. And I am surprised who find out this process.

Seen belatedly, today.Very good presentation.Could it please be supplemented with a small video on manual combing of seeds from the bottom.This will be an eye opener to the world,how difficult is to do it in dirty muddy water,full of organic matter that has not be removed from bottom for last 15 years affecting fully recovery of seeds by 20-25%.Regards

Prosses hygienic nahee man kharab hota hai dekhkar, vaheen machine use karne se hygiene, more production, more employment prapth hinge. Aaj Bihar ke liye bahoot mahatvapurn bath hai.

shame to you Bihar agriculture university sabour , workers are working like ancient slaves of Egypt, they are burning like oil day and night but their standered of living is so poor ,even young girl is working with burnt arms,shame on govt,shame on democracy,shame on those people who can able to make policies to upgrade the standeres of life of poor labrours. It realy hurts me.

Don't get annoyed Sadia ji, Only government is not to be blamed, it is the psychology of the people which is to be changed. Poverty makes children work. It is a debatable question - Should poor people reproduce children? (more children -> more work and so on)

Sadia Ji I respect your emotion regarding poor traditional Makhana seeds processors. I wish to inform you that we are working on holistic development of Makhana farmers and other stakeholders under dynamic leadership of Hon'ble Dr. A. K. Singh, V.C. Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour, Bhagalpur. Research and developmental works will takes time. We have already identified thrust area of holistic development of Makhana farmers and other stakeholders. We are working on solve problem one by one.This video film gave only information about traditional Makhana seeds processing (ITKs) and some innovative ideas for enhancement of production, productivity and profitability of underutilized wetlands/ waterlogged/lowland areas. In India, the total neglected wetlands is around 15.26 m ha which comes to 4.63 per cent of the total geographical area of the country. Till date these areas are under-exploited with low productivity. These areas are heavily infested by aquatic weeds specially water hyacinth. Farmers are unable to grow commercial crops and from these wetlands they harvest less quantity of wild fish etc. We have developed different technologies.The standardized Makhana Production Technology provides the way for better utilization and to get maximum net return from Underutilized and neglected waterlogged areas without eroding the Natural Resources.The present technology will increase total production, improved soil fertility and increased profitability of underutilized wetland. The area of the crop will increase and utilization of wetland enhances income and self employment especially to small and marginal farmers. The net return from the present production technology is Rs1, 60,000 - 1, 70,000/. The evolved variety Sabour Makhana-1, which is a selection from germplasm No. 07, fulfills the cherished demand of Makhana growers. The Makhana variety Sabour Makhana-1 gave seed (Guri) yield of 32-35q/ha and pop recovery of 55-60 per cent as compared to previously released variety (seed yield-28-30 q/ha & pop recovery 35-40 per cent only ) and other genotypes under test.
